Pickup for LP with big bottom

A low wind A2 magnet if you want some give / sag. I find A3 a bit tighter, then A4 then A5. I find A2 has more of a growl on single notes, A4 more of a howl and A3 is in between. Not a huge fan of A5s generally so can’t recall where they sit tonally. I’ve Rewind pickups in half my guitars and...

    Black Sabbath vs Paranoid

I’d say Paranoid overall, but I love NIB and The Wizard from the first album. My current favourite of the early albums is (just) SBS, followed very closely by Vol 4 which in turn is just ahead of MoR. But it’s very, very close and can change. The rawness of MOR is awesome and the riffs on Sweet...

    XTC 20thA or Axe Fx3?

Probably good news for my wallet. If you’d bought the 20th and then looked to sell it, it might have ended up at my place with your old 101B.

Brent Hinds (ex-Mastodon) died last night.

Really sad news - really enjoyed his playing and what he brought to the band generally over the years.

Boost Pedals for Marshall’s, what’s great?

Klon KTR or Maxon OD808X for me. OD808X for more teeth or KTR for more thickness. That said, just saw a bunch of recommendations for the Koko Boost Googled to see what prices are doing and found an original at a good price - now on its way to me. Damn this forum 😂

Who is excited about the Voldemort episode on Tone Talk this week?

So has Tech’s YouTube. It’s actually Larry using a voice modulator and deepfake of Tech’s face.

Who is excited about the Voldemort episode on Tone Talk this week?

Imagine if Larry anticipated this and welded one of those metal plates over part of the circuit….so Cameron mods the rest and covers it in black goop.

Every thread is a Larry thread waiting to happen…..

    NGD - 1990 Gibson Explorer

I’m not sure to be honest - they’re stock, so based on what I’ve read it’s a 496R in the neck and a 500T in the bridge. Whatever they are, they’re pretty punchy.

    NGD - 1990 Gibson Explorer

Picked this up at the weekend - a Gibson Explorer made in 1990. The white is yellowing nicely and it has some honest playwear - cool guitar. The previous owner replaced the black pickups rings and knobs with what you see here, which I really like. Great neck and a nice dark fingerboard too...

Mesa Mark IV - rev A/B help with brown cap identification

You should be OK, but I’ll defer to others. I have a transitional A/B and when researching this a few years back found the below on another RigTalk thread. Sprague caps are the issue and the caps in your picture seem to have been made by a company called Illinois Capacitors. “As a public...

Fryette / Rectifier / CAA / Soldano - You can only have one

It’s outside the US and not a 117v model. If I decide not to jump on it, I can send you a PM with details if it’s of interest?

Fryette / Rectifier / CAA / Soldano - You can only have one

Thanks for the thoughts all - much appreciated! Looks pretty evenly split between the Recto, CLX and CAA. Guess they’re all good choices!
