Duncan JB vs Suhr Aldrich vs Super Distortion for PRS SC250

Was going to post this too. I have guitars with Aldrich, JB and Super D’s but the PRS \m/ in my CU24 Floyd is my favorite by a good bit. Hot, clear and incredibly dynamic. It’s probably the most versatile bridge humbucker of any of my guitars.

    Tremonti or Aldrich (PRS content)

I don't have any experience with the Tremonti unfortunately, but I do have a set of \m/ pickups in my CU24 Floyd. "Metal" is kind of a misnomer for them like "Super Distortion" is. They are definitely hot, ceramic pickups, but they're also probably the most versatile pickups I have in any of my...

    Let's hear some gig stories!

Some great stories here so far! I've got one more. Opened a show years ago for Firehouse. We get to the venue just as they're finishing their soundcheck. Their guitarist, Bill Leverty's tone was amazing. He had 4 full Marshall JCM 900 stacks on stage and I was hoping he'd tell me how he got...

Holy Hanna, drunk people wanting to talk to you while you're playing is the best. :D

    Let's hear some gig stories!

Played a huge venue in the late 90s during an ice storm. It was so bad, we barely made it to the venue and our fully-loaded gear van almost slid across the entire parking lot an into a ravine. Barely saved by a concrete stopper. Bar was in one half of the building, stage and dance floor were in...

Say something bad about the Shure GLXD16 wireless

My bassist and I have both been using the Sure GLX for the last few years. Can't say enough good things about it. It works perfectly, sounds better than a cable to me and it's super easy to set multiple units to different frequencies. We've never had a single issue. Edit: I had multiple Line 6...

    Let's hear some gig stories!

Went to high school with Bret and Rikki from Poison. They were a couple of years older and had a cover band called Spectres. After they graduated, they started playing more originals and eventually changed their name to Paris (all before they moved to LA and became Poison). Since they didn't...

Gigging Dudes: Tips Moving from Tubes to Helix/Pod Go?

Awesome info, thanks! My next step is to grab some ChopTones presets and see if any of those point me in the right direction. Was also thinking of going the AxeFx/FM-3 route for exactly the reasons you stated, but I'm kind of committed to my Helix for now. Love that thing. Fortunately for me...

Gigging Dudes: Tips Moving from Tubes to Helix/Pod Go?

I started out with a PowerCab+ as my "live" monitoring solution, and didn't bond with it at all after a year of futzing and fighting with it. I ended up grabbing a pair of Headrush FRFR-112 wedges that were night-and-day better for me personally. My band doesn't do in-ears, so if I ever end up...

Gigging Dudes: Tips Moving from Tubes to Helix/Pod Go?

Man, you and me both, as you can probably tell from the novel I posted above. Exactly the same boat. I hate to keep saying it but it really depends on how particular you are. A lot of players can probably slap together a simple preset or two and be off and running gig-wise. That's not me...

Gigging Dudes: Tips Moving from Tubes to Helix/Pod Go?

My normal gigging rig is a Bogner XTC and one or two Bog 4x12 cabs with the Helix floor in 4cm for effects only. I just had my first full band rehearsal yesterday using only the Helix into two Headrush FRFR-112s. I have zero issues lugging heavy gear around so it's not that for me. It's mostly...

    Single coil pickup question

The staggered pole pieces were originally to balance the output across all the strings, particularly with more rounded fretboards. Most current string sets are much more balanced now and fretboards are flatter than they were in the past. I personally prefer flat over staggered, but it's not a...

    R.I.P. Forum Member "Splatter"

Even though most of us only know each other from our interactions here, many of us have been around for years, or decades. Losing one of our own like this is a tough blow to our little corner of the guitar community. Incredibly heartbreaking. RIP and rock on Splatter.

    NPU - Suhr Thornbucker+

I mentioned this briefly in another thread, but thought I'd start a new one. TLDR; for all you guys and gals looking for that "slightly overwound PAF" thing, I highly recommend you give the Thornbucker+ a go. I have zero affiliation with Suhr or Pete, just had a great experience I wanted to...

    EVH 5153 Stealth - 12AU7 in V1 - WOW!

For owners or players considering the EHV Stealth... I threw a JJ 12AU7 in V1 recently just for kicks to see what it would do. In short, it's staying. If the blue channel on the original 5150 III doesn't have enough gain, and the Stealth has too much, this is the perfect middle ground IMHO. I...

    5150 III Stealth Loop Question

Noticing a volume drop when I engage the loop of my 5153. I've always run a delay and a Boss EQ for a solo boost, but it seems like the Stealth's loop doesn't like the buffered Boss pedals. If I just run my TimeFactor and completely take the Boss out, everything is perfect. I need a clean solo...

Les Paul Custom + Suhr Aldrich Pickups

Recently bought a new custom shop LP Custom. Always wanted to try a set of Aldrich's in a LP so I figured this one was as good as any. Ordered a set and had them installed. When I finally fired it up yesterday, I was disappointed. The bridge p/u sounded murky and lifeless. Almost like the...
