Blue is basically Red without 3rd gain stage, which is R12 10K cathode resistor. Blue is 3 gain stages so it won't have Red amount of gain, which has 4 gain stages. To have so, You got to boost Blue with a pedal. Cameron mod is a variation of factory gain mod, being R12 3rd gain stage cathode...

That's correct but the spiral fillament may cause a malfunction there. May but not necessarily should - like I said, I've used EHX in V3 (for a few months if I remember correctly) with no problems.

Cameron mod has noticeably less gain and is tighter. Event more tight is its variation, called "Brent mod", which is using .68uF cap instead of 1uF used in Cameron mod.

It is true that You should avoid russian tubes with spiral filaments (Sovtek LP, LPS, EHX, TungSol RI, Mullard RI) in CF which means that it shouldn't be put in V3 position in XTC. You may put there old russian tubes such as Sovteks WA, WB or WC, but as they were constructed for military...

No differences in topology (R12 gain mod was done in 2004). Build quality should be the same. Both amps if not messed up with should be great.

It seems that main filter caps need to be replaced. I would replace all of them, not only blue power but also black preamp filters. Try to find exact size Nichicon or Mallory, my 101B was recapped with those and sounds great. Sprague or F&T eventually would also do the job. Setneck

Early versions of XTC has carbon comp anode resistors, which for some sounds different than metal film. Carbon comp ones tend to damage with time though. Structure cap was lowered from 2.2uF to 1.5uF and the change is noticeable. Also, in 2004 Red channel was modded for more gain.

The boards are not available anymore. The values are: Post-2004 Factory Mod – 2.7K + 0.22uF Cameron Mod – 10K + 1uF Brent Mod – 10K + 0.68uF Those combos (linked in series) are to be attached in parallel with R12 10K resistor. Regards, Andy

510-515V is correct B+ voltage in XTC. Mine amp, after changing trannies to MM, has about 500V there. Your problem are the tubes IMO. Forget about a JJ crap, get a Shugs or =C='s. They will stand the B+ easy. Regards, Andy :)

Maybe the bias was set too high. Try to lower it to 60%.

Definitely call Bogner HQ. That's ordinary fraud what was done to You.
