Carl I am very happy for you. Your bride is beautiful. Blessings to you!

    Fusionbear amps?

Yes, Mike's power section was in some ways like a audiophile's single-channel power amp.

So if Ed used the neck PAF pickup from his ES335 what magnet did Gibson use in the neck p/u?

Well, that's why I mentioned it (because of Tom's involvement). I like brighter pickups and running the amp darker, because it brings out the harmonic complexity easier. Much easier to subtract than add what isn't there. What EJ has always done (and Holdsworth).

So if Ed used the neck PAF pickup from his ES335 what magnet did Gibson use in the neck p/u?

My Holdsworth has the 59n in it and it's fantastic (with the fender trem).

So if Ed used the neck PAF pickup from his ES335 what magnet did Gibson use in the neck p/u?

Yes. If you want a budget Holmes (and they are spectacular pickups) the old Gibson 57 Classic + is wonderful. I've heard the new ones don't sound as good -- they changed the wire evidently -- but I've had one since my AR guy got me one in '89 or so.

So if Ed used the neck PAF pickup from his ES335 what magnet did Gibson use in the neck p/u?

Higher (slightly) than the PAF, and with a stronger magnet. The actual output in milliamps is greater than the slight difference in resistance suggests.

So if Ed used the neck PAF pickup from his ES335 what magnet did Gibson use in the neck p/u?

Higher output. Either Super 70 or SD/MM

So if Ed used the neck PAF pickup from his ES335 what magnet did Gibson use in the neck p/u?

The fact that the two guitars, and the two pickups found therein, couldn’t be more different yet get a very similar sound show the importance of the amp in that equation.

Yeah; Steve Blucher is honestly the most knowledgeable guy I’ve talked to.

So if Ed used the neck PAF pickup from his ES335 what magnet did Gibson use in the neck p/u?

Absolutely FANTASTIC post and spot-on. The pickup in the Red Baron (Holdsworth's Red Charvel) was basically an SD '59n with double screw coils with identical winds. Again, that "fat tele" tone that would hold together with gain or could do the clean stuff, or run parallel for the crystalline...

Oh I have bothered him! He's wonderful. And FAST.

So if Ed used the neck PAF pickup from his ES335 what magnet did Gibson use in the neck p/u?

No, that's a different pickup (I have one in my Charvel HRF). I'm specifically speaking of what was used to record when he had the Fender '61 tremolo on the Frank. I'd actually love to try the Jalen FW with perhaps the same offset but the hot/screw coil being closer to 7. It would open up a...

So if Ed used the neck PAF pickup from his ES335 what magnet did Gibson use in the neck p/u?

Sounds like a high 7s short A5 with a tiny bit of asymmetry (after trying that exact formula myself a la Gaustad). But, that formula sounds anemic when using a Floyd. Sounds killer (like a fat Tele) with the Fender bridge. This is what caused Ed to go down the overwinding rabbit hole (that and...

    Metroplex II has arrived

I’ll try and get a new clip up this week. Got my cabs sorted and put NOS glass in it (I am an EI snob). Also loaded down the f/x loop a bit to get the master up at 4 or so. Wowzers. Unbelievable. Bloom city. Great attack on each note, yet with that natural compression. I’ll try and get a proper...
