Finally Did Some Lynch - It's Not Love

Got around to doing some George Lynch / Dokken recently. Here's It's Not Love. As usual for my videos, I removed the original guitar tracks and added ack all the parts. Used a Fractal Audio Axe FX3 for the tones.

AIC - Them Bones - Axe FX

So I went back and added two more tracks panning each one 56% left and right respectively. Big difference. Huge guitars now and much more present in the mix. Thanks for the feedback on the tune and the tips. Much appreciated.

AIC - Them Bones - Axe FX

Cool - I may go back and add the two 56% panned tracks in the session. Curious to hear it. I know that Jerry C used a tons of amps recording that record.

AIC - Them Bones - Axe FX

I used Lalai (online service) to remove the guitars from the original track. They do a pretty good job on most songs and they did really well on this track going after the guitars. On my version, I used a Friedman model with a GB cab on the left track and the same Friedman model with a V30 cab...

    BE50 - Fractal Song Demo

Great guitar tone and overall mix. I have to ask - stock preset? Which cab IR?

    Charvel Dad Shred (WIP)

Right on -- I have the same experiences with many of the stock presets. They require a bit of tweaking -- generally brightening on the top and thinning out some mud in the lower mids. I SPDIF into Reaper and sometimes apply some EQ there to get a closer match to various records -- think VH1...

Van Halen - Diver Down Tone

I used the stock preset The Brown Sound with no tweaks to the amp settings. No drive pedals. The preset does have the Jose mod switch activated. Here's a view of the amp controls: Here's a view of the Cab Preamp that I did activate and modify. The cab is a stock IR "4x12 MAR PR-M20B FULL...

Van Halen - Diver Down Tone

CAE MC406 buffer - yes. Only used to send a hotter signal to a DI box when tracking a DI. Not used here.

Van Halen - Diver Down Tone

You sir are a genius. Downloaded a clone VST of the Pultec and within minutes I have gotten closer to the DD tone than ever before. Used my tracks from that video and dropped all DAW EQ for the guitars and replaced with the Pultec. Done. Sounds much more authentic. That high end shrill-ness...

Van Halen - Diver Down Tone

It's definitely a unique sound. You don't realize just hw brittle it is until you try and recreate it. A lot of his older stuff is like that on the records. Guessing there was some magic dust being applied to the tracks after being recorded.
