    Mesa Rectoverb 6L6 vs EL34

Okay... last one for a while... LOVE these EL34's!!!!

    Mesa Rectoverb 6L6 vs EL34

I'm leaning that way myself... don't get me wrong, the 6l6's are quite nice... but the el34's make it sound so good in a mix...

    Mesa Rectoverb 6L6 vs EL34

Another quick experiment... swapping the el34's with the 6l6's... Not a true test, just getting what I thought was good sound in the moment... not trying to match anything... I feel like the 6l6's are a touch scooped and could benefit from a slight bump in volume to match the cut of the...

Bark at Moon Vs Ultimate Sin

I always felt like Jake had an axe to grind with ULTIMATE SIN... his technique, songwriting, and performance was just incredible... although the solo on "Journey to the Center of Eternity" on BATM is outrageously good. But the solo for "Killer of Giants" is peak Jake to me... brilliantly put...

^^^^^^ EZ Drummer 3... worth every cent...

    Mesa Rectoverb 6L6 vs EL34

Here we go... a quick little sample after throwing in the EL34's... Gotta say, I don't mind it at all... sounds much more clear in the room with real cabs... sounds great when recording, too! A little different; has that bark and mid bump and I'd swear I have to turn the gain down a bit...

    Mesa Rectoverb 6L6 vs EL34

Just threw in the 3l34's (before running out the door so I only had about 6 minutes to play around)... EXACTLY what I was hoping for... enhanced the mids, has a nice bark, not quite the same 'flub' (sounds pejorative, but it isn't), and sounds nice and open... doesn't change the fundamental...

    Mesa Rectoverb 6L6 vs EL34

Thanks for all the great info! The el34's are on their way so I will definitely give a full report. This Recto records VERY well... When doing metal type stuff, I tend to triple track the rhythms, but even the single track leads really sound interesting... I have a feeling I'm going to like...

    Mesa Rectoverb 6L6 vs EL34

Some more experimenting... enjoy! I'm starting to really dig how 'ugly and dirty' this amp is... what I perceived as 'flat and sterile' might just be the rude behavior of this beast... kinda like a dirty hooker than can body slam you...

    Mesa Rectoverb 6L6 vs EL34

^^^^^ That's what I'm hoping for with swapping in some EL34's... I love the Rectoverb (take a listen), but it does sound a little 'flat' and 'sterile.' Just a bit... the Rec Pre and Fifty/Fifty has just a bit more depth and sparkle... it's a richer sound... the Rectoverb with the 6l6's sounds...

    Mesa Rectoverb 6L6 vs EL34

Nope... sounds that way anywhere I put her... doesn't sound bad, just very big... my Mark V:25, same cab, in the corner, doesn't have the same low end... it sounds amazing too...

    Mesa Rectoverb 6L6 vs EL34

Double the Necrobump fun! Just picked up this guy and she is as spongy as your mom's bootie... love it... thick, syrupy, slices and dices... typical beautifully ugly chunks of goodness... BUT, I'm also very curious about taming some of that thunderous low with EL34's... Should I? :)

Anyone Else? Rhoads Prototype III... sort of...

Up and running with some EMG H1A's in there and sounding SO good!!!!

Anyone Else? Rhoads Prototype III... sort of...

FINISHED! For a project that started as 'just' a potential wall mount, I'm thrilled with the final product... not an exact replica at all, but close enough to keep reminding me of where Randy was headed compositionally with (at least what I see as) the evolution of tunes like "Revelation" to...

Anyone Else? Rhoads Prototype III... sort of...

^^^^^^ With as much care as I could muster!!!! Found a lovely Linen White matte finish spray paint, took several days to add coats, some fine sanding, etc... let it sit for a few more days, light sand, then clear coat satin finish (not a huge fan of gloss, even though the actual prototype is...

Anyone Else? Rhoads Prototype III... sort of...

Anyone else mod the crap out of an Jackson RR to get toward the third prototype that Randy never got? Traded some stuff and grabbed up this little RRJS and the owner had already modded it up with a gold pickguard and pickups... Decided to make a poor man's version of the third prototype...

    Mesa Rec Pre & Fifty/Fifty vs Mesa Mark V:25 - 80's Riff

Okay... This tune started out as an experiment to see if the Mesa Rec Pre and Fifty/Fifty could do some 80's type riffage just as well as the lower tuning stuff I've been doing with it lately... The tune hardly sounds 80's anymore, but around the 2 minute mark is what the original riff was to...

Mesa Boogie Rectifier Recording Preamp and Fifty/Fifty Power Amp Fun!

Thanks! I'm quite pleased with the sounds! Got some more work to do to fine tune, but what a beast that pre/power amp combo is!!!

Mesa Boogie Rectifier Recording Preamp and Fifty/Fifty Power Amp Fun!

Playing around with some new sounds and new IR's right from Celestion and enjoying the shit out of the results... Never thought I'd like the Recto sound after thinking the Mark V:25 was the standard by which all is measured... What the hell did I know???? :) Enjoy!!!!
