This is my main amp, but I have never tried that, since I use the el84s for power chord work.
I suppose you just have to try it. I'd use a lint-free cloth to handle the tubes.
I do not believe that you have vintage wiring. You'd have to move the cap wire to the middle terminal of the volume pot.
The first thing I'd do is follow the previous advice and get an ohm reading to see if the pickup is shorting. If it does not have a good reading, it may need to be repaired...
I used the yellow one with a Fender Bassman for about 2 years.
Once you start using it with amps like the Bassman, you do not want to play without it as it does allow you to jack up you main volume quite a ways before the neighbors call the police. A cranked Bassman is really a different amp...
Hi Bruce - once I read the print on the circuit board and realized that the amp is supposed to be biased in mV (not mA), I biased the amp successfully and have been bathing in streams of tone ever since.
So . . . it was my duh, I am embarrassed, but that's ok. A little humility now and again...
My Rebel 30 head will not allow me to bias the 6v6 tubes past 30mA. The EL84 bias to 40mA just fine.
Anybody any idea what the problem could be?
I depend on this amp.
So I bought this used Rebel 30 head. The OD channel sounded all fuzzy, so I retubed it.
I successfully set the EL84s to 40mA; however, I run out of pot trying to bias the 6V6s. I get up to 28mA and the pot is maxed out.
I think to myself, something wrong with the new tubes. So I put the...
