I guess that depends on what your idea of "modern high gain" is.... If you want a plexi type tone, the Carl Martin PlexiTone is a monster. I've got one and love it.

I have the corona and I love it.... although I will say it's a very subtle chorus and it's good as an "always on" pedal. If that's what your looking for I saw go for the Corona.
