LEF Custom guitars… who’s got one?

:shocked::shocked: That last one with the black quilt top! ....and that fret board.... Does that have a carved top too? Wow!

Marshall 2555x - are the current ones different than original reissue run?

I have one from very early in the first run in 2015. Really ready good sounding amp, and has hung around here a long time, but there are some things to consider. The early ones had an issue with the presence pot that Marshall refused to even acknowledge. The pots failed at an alarming rate...

    Marketplace cab score

This^^^^ I realize the OP has said he's going to re-do the wiring, but I just wanted to chime in for any one who's on the fence about them Marshall cab PCB's. Get those fukking things out of there ASAP. When they fail, and they will, it's bad news for your power tubes, and likely your output...

Exact same amp build, 50w vs 100w - any difference in tone?

Yeah, with the load box, attenuator and IR tech we have these days, we have lots of ways to deal with the volume issue. So it does come down to tone, and I'm just trying to build a real good representation of that classic 800 circuit. You guys are all just kinda confirming what I thought would...

Exact same amp build, 50w vs 100w - any difference in tone?

LOL  I'm going to try to build me some awesome amps one at a time. Looks like the JCM800 clone is gonna be a 100w. Thanks guys!

Exact same amp build, 50w vs 100w - any difference in tone?

I'd like to build myself a JCM800 clone. I have 2 unused ClassicTone " Marshall style" transformer sets: 50 & 100 watt laydown PT's, 50 &100w OPT's & 3H choke. The amp will be built in a 100w Metro chassis with double can caps for the plates and screens. I'm going to fab up my own turret...

    Anyone Tried G12H-75 x G12H-30 Anniversaries?

Yeah, I dig the anniversary/greenback combo as well. I have a Wizard 4x12 with 2 x EVH greenbacks up top and 2x anniversary H30's on the bottom, and it sounds fantastic. When I got the cab, it was loaded with the 2 x Annie's, and 2x Heritage G12H30's, and it was way too much high end. If...

    Friedman Jose First Impressions

Amp sounds good, and yeah, its not a metal amp, and isn't supposed to be a metal amp. But let's cut to the chase... That fukking vibe sounds incredible! In fact, I just hit Google, found one in stock in Canada (Electric Mojo) and ordered one. Thanks for posting!

    Song Mixing

Cool tune, but yeah that's a bit too much on the verb. First of all, if you are running any mix bus compression or mastering limiting, it will drastically bring up all the low level audio like verb in a mix. If that's the case, process the rest of the mix on another sub group and leave the...

Drill Press Recommendations for guitar mods?

Yeah, what the other guys said re the distance from the center of the chuck to the support post. Advantages of a larger press include a larger table, and if you get a well made, sturdy enough one, they can be used as an arbor press to press frets and also to stake turrets to make custom turret...

New JCM Modified Video: What's the Tight Switch do?

Haven't played one in person, but the clips are not inspiring. I'm in Canada as well, and there is no way I would consider one of these Marshall's over, for example, a Ground Zero Helion, a Headfist Alta, a Friedman JEL etc. that are all in the same price bracket for us Canucks. And I also think...

    You got compressor?

I have a Wampler Ego comp pedal that is pretty cool. I like the fact that it has a blend control and a tone control, so you can squish things pretty hard and then blend back some clean signal, and the tone control can help offset that darkening effect that can happen when you start to shave off...

    Re-tube Mark IV or wait?

By posting this sentence, and in the context of the thread, you seemed to be implying that because Mesa's do not have bias adjustment, they are cathode biased. Sorry for the confusion.

    Re-tube Mark IV or wait?

The OG Peavey 5150's are the same deal.... Fixed bias, but not adjustable, and typically very cold.
  19. fusedbrain

    Re-tube Mark IV or wait?

Mesa's are NOT cathode biased. They are fixed bias, but they omit the trim pot and just use a resistor in place of the trim pot, so that the bias voltage is non-adjustable.

    Vox AC10 DIY or not?

I might have misunderstood what you wanted to do. If you are just going to play through them and not try to mod them, all the vox amps are decent enough. The little single ended ac4's can be made a whole lot better by swapping out the ot with a Hammond 125ese. A opt swap is actually pretty...
