    Sometimes a JB just works

There is no such thing as an “improved” JB. It is what it is and it seems people love it or hate it. Guitar below has had a ton of pups. Most recently a Jalen Bee that I was really let down by. Others I can remember are: Perpetual Burn JB with A2 mag Duncan Exciter Pariah Destruction 70 CS...

    Matchless 4x12

Not interested…..but came across this. Loaded with a Creamback 65 x 75 mix. My question is what is the point of a single top strap? No side handles either. This designed for Bigfoot or something?

    Took some stuff off pedalboard

……and things sound so much better. Removed an MXR micro flanger out front, a UAFX Brigade in loop, and a 10-band MXR in loop. Not sure which one was the tone sucker, but it is a drastic improvement in clarity.

    My favorite OD’s

For no apparent reason. Just an old man with a love for stock JCM800’s, Have a pile of OD pedals and loves late 70’s/early 80’s metal. I currently have 23 overdrive pedals and have owned and sold at least that many more. Can’t seem to beat these for the level high/gain low thingy.

    Brandonwound T-Tops!

Man, what a great sounding set of pups! I’ve run a ton of pups through the V below and never completely bonded with any of them. That includes going from extremely hot, to mid output, to PAF types and everything in between. Don’t know if they just jive with the V or what…..but I’m loving...

    Dimarzio PAF 57 - Tested

In response to my other thread, I finally got to put them through the paces in my Gibson V. I’m impressed! To preface this, I’ve used all the Dimarzio “PAF” variants. I’ve also tried numerous boutiques (OX4, Wolfetone, Manlius, BKP, Tyson Tone Lab, etc). My favorites to date are the Gibson...

    Another pick thread

I spent 4 hours today going through boxes and boxes of picks I’ve accumulated over the last 25 years. I went through a collection phase and have just about every kind of pick you can think of from run of the mill to the most obscure. When it boils down to it, the ones I actually prefer to...

    Dimarzio PAF 57 - Update!

So I ordered a set only because the relic white bobbins should look good in my V below…..lol. I’ve used the 36th, PAF Master, and PAF 59 in other guitars. I’ll give a review once received and installed. UPDATE Just got them installed and OMG these are the greatest PAF variants ever...

A/B’d a bunch of delays today

Had the chance to compare a bunch of delays today at a rehearsal space. All were tested through my Morris UK78 (JCM800 clone) with passive loop and return control. Delays tested: Boss DD3-T, Boss DD200, Mad Professor Deep Blue, EQ Dispatch Master, EHX Nano Memory Man, and new TC Electronics...

    Spent the afternoon comparing speakers

My other guitarist and I spent most the day comparing modern day “greenback” types in Marshall 1960A cabs. Unfortunately no clips, but all tests were blind and done at loud volume in his isolated music room. Amps were my Morris UK78 (800 clone), Morris SIRROM, and his JMP and OG 5150...

    Tiny Pedal Boards

I just took everything off my board except for a Griffin Super Drive out front and a MP Deep Blue Delay in the loop. It’s crazy how much clearer my dry signal is and just better tone overall. I have these 2 pedals sitting on the smallest Voodoo pedal available…….Tiny Dingbat I believe. Does...

    Thank you Mr. Griffin!

I’m a devoted fan of the SD-1. Boutiques and variations come and go, but I always come back to the stock version for boosting Marshall style amps. That list includes the Waza, Keeley, and Analogman. Received my Griffin Super Drive today and immediately put it through a blind A/B test with my...

    Kramer/Gibson Eruption - Update

Just finished up this guard for my partscaster. Gonna give the new “Eruption” pickup a go. Dimarzio Satch Track in neck. I should be able to give a report tomorrow. This particular guitar has had the following pups in the past. JB Custom Custom Tonenerd Sunset Strip Tonenerd Roxy Pariah...

Pickup phase question (Dimarzio Satch Track)

I’m about to piece together an H/S strat with the new Kramer/Gibson “Eruption” pickup in the bridge and a Dimarzio Satch Track in the neck. The Kramer pup is the same polarity as full sized Dimarzio/Duncan humbuckers. Anyone know if the Dimarzio rail pup will be in phase? I know it’s an...

    Combo amp for beginner

After, 15 years of being around my gear, my stepson has finally developed an interest in guitar at age 18. He's been banging away on my acoustic for a few weeks and has already learned basic chords and starting to play stuff like Foo Fighters, Green Day, etc. Surprises the hell out of me to...
