I recently picked up this Jen Double Sound fuzz/wah from the 70’s, it’s pretty awesome. John Wetton used one of these in his King Crimson days, I originally intended to use it on bass like he did but I also tried it with guitar and it’s probably the best sounding wah I’ve had. The fuzz sounds...
I put a regular 800 style master in mine and have been boosting it with either a VFE Dragon or Standout, both of those pedals have so much output I haven’t had the urge to try double boosting yet.
I have been intrigued by the Langner stuff for a while but this one is my only vintage Marshall...
I’ve often thought of having something like this done with my ‘71 since I don’t use the tremolo or have a foot switch but I do also love it as it is.
Kind of off topic, but on a stock amp is the extra tube still in the signal path when the tremolo isn’t engaged? My amp can get pretty brutal...
Kartakou Beastbox tube preamp pedal. Based on the Engl E530 rack preamp. Works as it should, great shape. Has Velcro on the back, comes with power supply. Asking $275 shipped in the lower 48.
If I can get this out of a stock ‘71 Super Tremolo with an added master volume and a VFE Standout in front, I would think one should be able to get something close to a modern metal tone out of a 2203 with the right boost. It’s always going to sound like a Marshall though, you aren’t going to...
I would say so. They all had a lot of gain but the best way I could describe the difference is the one I own feels and sounds like it has a boost in front in comparison to the others I’ve tried.
It depends which variation of the Metalhead mod he based it on. They aren’t very consistent and most of them aren’t tight despite the Fear Factory association.
I do own one that is tight (even more so than my Mark III) but all of the other Elan mods and preamps I’ve played weren’t. I’m tempted...
Anyone else feel like your real life experiences are always at odds with prevailing opinion on most of the other gear forums or Facebook groups?
My latest experience with this phenomenon involves my ‘71 Marshall Super Tremolo. I have owned the amp since 2019 but rarely used it because it had no...
Agree. I have a pair of late 80’s cabs with non-vented, white label G12T-75s and they sound much clearer and more articulate than any of the later ones I’ve played through.
I agree, Norlin era Gibsons are hidden gems. The neck profiles especially. My main gigging guitar was a ‘72 SG Custom and when I was looking for a backup I had a hell of a time finding a modern SG that felt close.
A beat up Marshall 4210 combo, traded a Discman for it. Then I stupidly sold it to the local music store for $50 so I could buy a Line 6 Flextone ?♂️.
