Not really sure how much (or if) it affects the tone, but the SLO also never disengages the clean channel when the overdrive channel is engaged which doesn't happen on the Recto. There's been debate about how much this matters, however, considering the output of the overdrive channel likely...
I'd guess no, or at least not in the same way that boosting up front does. Putting the boost up front pushes the preamp tubes, which is what results in the tighter sound. Boosting in the loop would only drive the phase inverter and power amp tubes, which I'd guess would have less of an effect...
I've been noticing quite a difference lately between my guitar with chrome pickup covers vs one without (same guitar model, both with Duncan JBs). It makes sense that throwing a big piece of metal between the coils and the strings would affect the tone, but I hadn't realized just how drastic...
Hell of an undertaking for a first build! Good luck!
I'd also recommend building an amp stethoscope (basically an output jack wired to the wiper of a 1M pot with test leads wired to the other lugs of the pot, one for ground and one through a coupling cap to block DC). Connect the ground...
Also, there's a SE 245 that just came up on my local Facebook marketplace. Would be willing to pick it up and swap out the stock pickups, if you were interested. PM me if you are
Who's tried one of these? How close are they to the Mark series power amp? Always loved being able to run EL-34s and 6L6s in parallel on the mark and would love to be able to use that with some other pre's. I saw somewhere that they use the same tranny's as the mark II or III, anyone know if...
This is a set of Fishman Fluence Devin Townsend Signature pickups. Bought these and installed them in my guitar, but didn't use the guitar much and ended up swapping them out and selling it. They've got maybe 10 total hours of light use on them. They sound great and are dead quiet, and I...
2008 Ibanez Prestige s5470 transparent black guitar in great condition. Has an amazingly fast neck--wide and thin. HSH pickup configuration gives a ton of tonal options. Innovative tremolo which is by far the best I've ever used. Thin, contoured body means it's super comfortable to play...
IMO, people will always say we're not 'there' yet because modeling is trying to recreate the sounds of known amps. As long as there exists a 'real thing' and a 'clone', people will say it's not the same thing because, well, people like to do that sort of thing... It happens all the time with...
Well, the good news is it showed up undamaged, the bad news is it was a JJ combo. Wha wha... I got there and the guy went to get it from the back. He brings out a giant box, and you could just tell it wasn’t a box you’d ship a head in. The packaging inside was terrible, with all kinds of...
