KSR Amps; what are the differences between them all?

The Juno is listed a KSR interpretation of a hot rodded Marshall....but I really didn't get much of that vibe from playing one. Still alot smoother and with much less upper mid grind and attack compared to a good Marshall or modded Marshall. If I were going after that tone/feel, I wouldn't go...

    Friedman Butterslax

I had a similar experience. The first Friedman I tried was a modified 1979 jmp with a BE mod....it was a monster! I actually thought it blew away the Fortin modded 83 jcm 800 I tried at the same time. When I bought my 2017 BE 100, I had super high hopes and expectations it would be like that...

Most overrated amp ever... pick 1!

I think this is pretty accurate. They are amazing amps. But no way I am spending that much on one when my MKIV gets me 95% of the way there. That said....we often end up spending the big big bucks for that final 5% (in tone...or feel....etc) don't we. Plus there is the fact there is a small...

Most overrated amp ever... pick 1!

Pretty well my answer exactly. Now, I do think the 2C+ is a fantastic amp....but there is no way it is multiple levels above what my MKIV is. In some areas, the I think the MKIV is better than the 2C+. Friedman for sure. I had huge expectations when I got my 2017 BE100. Turned out the 96...

Recto solo rev F the eptiome of recto tone?

I dig the Rev F.....particularly the Rev F triple. It is more similar to a Rev G than different, but being slightly tighter and brighter makes me dig it more. For the stuff I play now, I likely wouldn't even need to boost a Rev F, whereas I always boosted a Rev G. Cool amps....but definitely...

Bogner Uber Ultra EL34 vs 6L6 - Who played both?

Both have good clean channels. The Uber Ultra has a much better clean channel than prior revisions. That said, when I play either the Ultra-lead or Uber Ultra, I don't spend alot of time using their clean channels.

Bogner Uber Ultra EL34 vs 6L6 - Who played both?

My Uber Ultra can get just as tight as my Ultra-lead. Absolutely. The Uber Ultra can also do the "wall of sound" thing the old Ubers do as well.

    Good luck with that....

People are indeed greedy and will absolutely not pass up the opportunity to play on the "vintage....rare...vintage and rare" thing. Alot of the fun I used to have buying gear and trading is gone. Now everyone wants to "win the trade" or be able to boast to their buddies or online about how...

    Fryette Ultralead/CLX/Sig X

I picked up my Ultra-lead for 1600 Canadian in the early 00's. For a long time they were steal; I think alot of players just didn't know what they were.

    Rectos now cooler than Diezels?

I suppose I am in the minority as well, but I would take a VH4, VHX or Herbert over MOST Rectos. I have played a few Rev G's that sound great. Most I didn't like. I have also played my friends Rev F triple that is an absolute monster. No way I am spending the $$$ on what they are going for now...

    What's the best amp?

Agreed! I bought and used my Pittbull Ultra-lead before I ever tried a Mark series amp. Loved that brutal beast from the first crushing chord! When I purchased a mkiv a couple years later, I loved it as well. The Marks I think get more saturated than the Fryette stuff; but I always felt they...

    What's the best amp?

Man....I don't know what the "best" amp I have owned or played is. At this point, I have played a good portion of the highly lauded rock oriented amps (save a Recto Rev C, Larry and Hermansson). Some did not live up to the hype for me....others absolutely did. There have been some standouts...

Those of you who have owned both the VH2 and VH4..

Hopefully @Techdeth chimes in. He has both the vh4 and vh2 and has said really great things about the vh2!

What’s your favorite speaker to pair with V30’s?

My two favorites are Creamback 75's and Redbacks. Both are just as "loud" as the v30 and both compliment the v30 in my experiences thus far. Redbacks add some thump, breadth and warmth, while still keeping things tight. Also has a great feel for such a high wattage speaker! The Creambacks...

    Wizard guys 100w versus 50w

No. The 100w's I have played and the ones I own now (w800, MC1) definitely don't saturate as the volume goes up. They stay tight, clear and just get bigger and punchier. I for one, am glad that is their response, as that more dry and almost acoustic like attack is what I love.

Duncan Perpetual Burn vs bare knuckle Rebel Yell

Hey! Ya, that description of the S-Deco is actually pretty accurate. I would say that description applies to the A5 version. A2 is a bit warmer and chewier (but still tight...tighter than a Custom Custom), but less chimey in the top end. An A8 version was my favorite: feel and mids like the A2...

    Wizard Modern Classic Unboosted Thrash

Definitely not a smidgen above an 800 gain wise. Actually, I don't really feel my MC1 has a whole lot in common with the 2203 and 2204's I have played. Tighter and punchier, which is the Wizard trademark, but also more low end, more gain (a lot more in the boosted channel) and different mids...

Duncan Perpetual Burn vs bare knuckle Rebel Yell

I would take the RY all day over the PB. I didn't keep the PB too long. I didn't find it had much in common with a JB. More like a watered down Custom. For that type of wind (lower wind, AWG43), the Custom Shop S-Deco I had blew it away! The RY I found did have some similarities to the JB in...

What are your favorite amps that compliment each other?

An Ultra-lead and a Herbert.....ya, that is a pretty apt description. In the early 00's I was in a hardcore/metalcore group, where I was using an Ultra-lead and the other guitarist used a mk1 Herbert. It was ridiculously crushing. We were also a ridiculously loud band. The other guitar player...

    Boost-Talk

If I set the Ultra to its more "loose" settings using doom, set to fat and with the metamorph control....I could get some usable stuff happening using my Wizard Leopard. But honestly, it is an amp that really responds better without boosting. On the tighter/aggressive settings, which I...
