So I'm starting to get my XTC 50 watt rig dialed in...

Welp, here we go: the first of (likely too) many clips to come as I get my new rig dialed in ... Let me know what you think! P.S.: Thanks, YouTube, for capturing Goofy Guitar Face #6 in the thumbnail. Much appreesh.

HNAD to me! Bogner 3534 50 watt content

Welp, I got too old to lug my big Shiva head around to rehearsals & gigs any more. So I sold it and my Suhr Badger mini rig, and got me my first brand new amp in I don't know how many years. And it got here TODAY!!! So here's a long, rambling, but (for me) EXCITING unboxing & playthru vid of...

    Noob tube question :-/

The preamp in my Koch Studiotone uses three 12ax7s. Now, I know that the V1 input tube is usually the one closest to the input jack ~ natch. And I also know that the preamp tube closest to the transformer is usually the phase inverter, right? But the Studiotone is billed as being "class A."...

Big Batch o' Clips! Dr. Z, Trace Elliot, & Koch amps!!!

Okay, so I'm trying to get a definitive comparison of my three current amps. Here's what I came up with... First, I compared all three heads through the same speaker cab: a Crate Blue Voodoo closed back, ported 1x12 loaded with a Vintage 30, using the same mic position, and at about the same...

So, having decided to sell my Maz Jr...

I'm actually thinking of trying to trade for a Budda Superdrive combo. Which is a bit mad, as I tried one several years ago & didn't quite bond with it. But it's been years now, & my tastes (and ears) have changed quite a bit. And besides, I didn't really keep it long enough back then to give...

Had an apostrophe w/ my Koch Studiotone (Dr Z content)

Okay, so having compared my Koch Studiotone to the Dr. Z Maz 18 Jr NR back when I first acquired the Maz a couple months ago, I had decided back then that the Maz was several orders of magnitude better tone-wise than the Koch. Of course, that was running the Maz through one cab/speaker...

    Dual overdrive pedals?

Hey, y'all, I'm currently using a Banzai Fireball II od in front of my Dr. Z Maz 18 Jr. head. I run the amp at "mid-gain," c. AC/DC crunch with the guitar's volume up & great cleans when I roll back the volume knob. I use the Banzai primarily as a boost ~ level almost maxed, the overdrive gain...

So, this is neat & frustrating (Dr. Z & Swart content)

Been a while since I posted a Z thread, so HI! :D As you may remember, True Believers, once I got the mad volume under control via the Swart Night Light attenuator, I rapidly fell deeply in lust/love with my Dr. Z Maz 18 Jr. NR head. That process continues unabated (although, as mentioned, a...

So, the Dr. Z is making it harder to enjoy my other amps...

I spent an hour or so the other night just going back and forth between the Maz Jr., the Speed Twin, & the Studiotone. And I gotta say, now that I have the attenuator to control the Maz's volume, it's just so responsive & fun to play that, I dunno, it's like I just don't dig my other amps as...

6-band EQ in loop: frequencies for solo boosting?

Running a clean boost in the loop of my Dr. Z as a volume (not gain) boost for solos doesn't work quite as well with the attenuator I'm now running between the amp & speaker. So I replaced it with my MXR 6-band eq... But it's kinda tough figuring which frequencies to boost without a full band...

I JUST FELL IN LOVE w/ MY Dr. Z -- FINALLY!!!

Ao on the recommendation of a fellow RTer, I ordered a Swart Night Light attenuator -- Lemme tellya, this thing is a-MAZ-ing! (Pun fully intended. But seriously. Yeah.) Now that I have complete control over the overall output level of the amp, I can truly appreciate the richness of the tone...

Okay, Rig-Talk: school me on attenuators

What can they do? What can they *not* do? Best application(s)? Best brands? Most affordable? &c.

Amp Comparison ~ inspired by D/FW XJ'er: Guess the amps! :)

Some of you know that recently my Quest For Tone led me to try out a Dr. Z Maz 18, and that I've been having a tough time "gelling" with it, despite what a truly lovely amp it is. Fellow forumite D/FW XJ'er suggested that, rather than fighting to get the amp to work with the type of setup I'm...

Transitioning to my new home in RT: my latest gear story

I had a chance a few short weeks ago to pick up a used Dr. Z Maz 18 Jr. NR head. Now, there was nothing wrong with the amps I had, but this was my first opportunity to "step up" to a "next level" kind of boutique-type amp. Just think of the e-prestige & internet cred, I (er) thought. I...

Looking for stock pickup wiring info for a Hamer USA Mirage

Can anybody tell me where I could find the original wiring specs for a Mirage I koa top? I've been messing with the volume circuit to see if I could get it to clean up better with rolling back the volume knob, but it's been frustrating, and I've about decided I need to go back to the stock...

Moar Clipz! Speaker comparison: V30 vs. Greenbacks

Moar clispesez! :rawk: (or :lame:, whatever your reaction may be...) Two amps, two cabs: Koch Studiotone & Trace Elliot Speed Twin; Crate Blue Voodoo 1x12 w/ a V30 & Avatar 2x12 w/Greenbacks (both are closed-back cabs). Thoughts? Comments? Preferences? Lemme know! :2thumbsup: Koch...

Two amps, two cabs, & two clips

Didn't get too much interest in this over at hcaf, but perhaps here there's more interest in amps & how they sound...  :gethim: (...jus' kiddin' w/ that last one...) At any rate, I threw these together REALLY fast with NO care taken regarding mic placement or quality of...

    Question for y'all MIDI Xperts...

As those of you who've suffered through my various clips know, my main amp is a Trace Elliot Speed Twin 50 watt head. It's one of the later models in the series, so it has 8-pin DIN connectors for a five button, non-latching footswitch to control channel switching, boost in/out, dual master...

New Pedal Day (+review): Banzai Fireball II Overdrive

Okay, so my pedal FINALLY showed up (I had to wait for the $$$ to "clear" through Paypal). First, the good news: 1. It's a GORGEOUS pedal. It looks even better in person than the pix can convey. Just a lovely looking pedal. 2. It's RIDICULOUSLY tweakable. Three different compression...

Old fashioned pedals & new fangled MIDI setups?

Okay, so I've been messing around with my rig again, like y' do, and I decided to try running my Speed Twin just on the dirty channel as if it were a single channel amp with no extra bells & whistles type switching (no channel switching, no switchable master volumes, no fx loop switching in &...
