I think it's very guitar dependent. I mostly really like the Callaham hardware, but I put one of his upgrade blocks on my AmDlx and it made the guitar completely lose all of its dynamics. For some reason that axe just sounds way better with the cheap shitty stock hardware ?♂️
The Air Norton S is a pretty solid pickup, not quite as smooth as the full size one but should do what you're looking for. It's got a decent amount of output.
I'm not a modeling fan in general but $450 is a good buy. Honestly the original Axe with its latest firmware still has a better feel to me than some of the current modelers on the market, in particular stuff like the Headrush or the Positive Grid ?♂️
That and even the early Fractal units have...
Dude, the world is literally 5 billion years old and we all somehow got to live at the same time as Van Halen.
These are literally some of the best songs that have ever been written. None of them have really been properly played live in the past 20 years. Sammy still sounds great. Satch knows...
Yeah the Variac is pretty cool, although I found myself not using it all that much when playing the amp live. It cuts through much better in a live mix at full voltage.
I use mine mostly just as a FX processor with my heads since it is basically $10-20K worth of rack gear in a small box, but when I do occasionally use it to model, I've found that it's easiest to just approach it as if you were using a real amp. IE pick an amp and a cab, dial in a sound and...
I freaking loved my SL68 when I had it, but man these prices are getting out of hand. It's basically just a 100W plexi with a few extra bells and whistles, $3500??
I'm completely sold on Fractal for the effects alone. It can do a bang-on 2290, SDE3000, Tri-chorus, tons of verbs - it's basically like having a rack full of high end studio-grade gear. I'm not a modeling guy, but I use one just as a FX processor in my main rig.
That said, the models are just...
Haha I remember a few years ago I was talking about trading my '56 NOS Custom Shop Strat, which I have played the shit out of and naturally looks like a proper relic. The guy I was talking to simultaneously told me it was worth a lot less for the amount of wear it had, and even more so for not...
That album was a Langner, unfortunately those amps are unobtanium these days. There's a guy named Brent Gutierrez that apparently can do that mod for you: https://www.facebook.com/GutierrezGuitarCo/
I have really mixed feelings about EBMM. Being an unapologetic JP fanboy, I own 5 and they are some of my favorite guitars - a JP6 Autumn Redrise, a JP6 BFR Cherryburst, a JP16, a Majesty in Glacial Frost and.a Steve Morse Y2D in Purple Sunset. They're pretty much all forever keepers for me...
I've never liked the feel of the Gotoh, have one on my Suhr and something about it just has never clicked for me. I'm a Ibanez whore so the Edge is by far my favorite, but I have OFR's on my Luxxtone and PRS and they play great and sound huge.
Office chair with flip-up armrests that you can move up out of the way is my go-to. I've had this one for the past couple years and love it:

I just picked up the new reamp box from Walrus Audio, works great. Just need to run a XLR out of your interface to the box, then out to the front of the amp. Has a couple useful features like an output control and a phase switch.
I think it's about half the price of the Radial, I'm sure that's...
