Just got this 1983 JCM800 2204 back from Dave yesterday. He did the "naked" or the "APC" mod which is the mod he did on Billy Howerdel of A Perfect Circle's JMP back in the day. Absolutely blown away. It has the PERFECT amount of gain. Of course I tried boosting it and it sounded great, but I prefer it without. Super organic and natural sounding but very easy and rewarding to play, feels great under the hands. A problem I have with a lot of amps is that once you get the palm mutes where you want them the tone for normal strumming is too compressed or distorted. And vice versa if I set the amp for open chords and strumming I don't have enough beef on my palm mutes. This amp balances those two things better than any amp I've ever head, a nice clear dynamic sound with plenty of chunk behind the palm mutes. Makes me want to try Dave's custom shop Naked amp he makes from scratch.
