Hi!
What does the voltage switch in the X-amp do exactly, as I can not hear a massive difference between
the two settings.

Shorts out one of the dropping resistors across the B+ line. With higher voltage, you have more headroom and note definition. Less voltage, more compressive. Hope this helps!
 
You wont hear a sound difference its a “feel” thing one has more attack more immediately more punchy one is more spongey
