I saw Metallica this weekend in austin at the Guitar Hero show. James was using two triple recs. Is he not using his Diezel's anymore?

Was he plugged into the Triple Recs? Wouldn't be surprised if the Diezels were off stage, but I don't think Mesa endorses anyone so I don't know....

What is on stage is not what he usually uses...he has racks... ;)

i've seen them mostly with the Mesa "walls" on stage, but as Scott has some "off-stage"-pics from some of these shows, the Diezels were behind and the ones plugged in.

EDIT: ah, and he also beat me to it. :D

I cant say for sure that there weren't Diezel's somewhere......but this was a very small place. There were only 1500 of my closest friends there. And the space to have any hidden equipment was very limited. Here see for yourself.

Well, Metallica is currently on tour in Europe and as far as I know James only has those two VH4 in his live rig and I can imagine that they didn't want to carry that complete rig to the US for only one small show in between the European tour.

That what I mean. Doesn't make sense to ship the whole rig around the world for such a small show :)

MEtallica has double rigs. two identical sets, so that while they're playing one the other is being set up or on its way to the next show (that means James has 4 VH4s and hell prob. has a rig that stays in HQ all the time, that'd make 6 :D). He could have prob. been using one of the rigs.

But again, also for such a small gig, he prob. just used a recto and the JC120 combo that you can see in that show

here, you can see it behind
but it's weird..those rectos have green LED, and I don't recall any recto having green leds.....someone told me, I think it was Scott, that during the 04, 05 tour the recto heads wher empty

Observation: the cabs are not mic'd......I think even the cabs are empty, or just for the band to hear

The guitars are not plugged in....maybe it is all being lip synched. Maybe it is photoshop magic or something. :D

I assure you that James Hetfield is still playing the VH4's on record and tour.

Hey Joey, you're thinking the "blue" team, and the "red" team for big tours....they haven't been doing that since 04 I believe.

The Rectos are (were, as I'm not sure about nowadays) empty/not plugged into cabs. The cabs were empty too. But it's entirely possibly that they use some sort of a small setup for smaller gigs.

Afaik, James uses the regular VH4, not the stereo VH4.

yeah, I meant VH4 (s) as plural hehehee

see you where the one that told me about the empty headshells and cabs! :D

THey're not doing the dual rig setup then?

When I read about that I though that it made a lot of sense. But I guess their touring program nowadays is a lot more flexible and they're only doing two shows in a row and one day off, plus a week on a week off, so they're prob. saving money by having only one team.

Again who knows man, there are A LOT of shit going on behind closed curtains anyways.

No one has explained why...If you don't have an endorsement(sp) deal with mesa why you go through the trouble of having empty heads/cabs on stage. If you want empty heads/cabs why not use empty Diezel stuff?

Because that would cost more

I have my theory..... I think there's some sort of deal/agreement between JAmes and Mesa.

Like I said there's a TON of shit behind the table that we have no idea. Even if there's "some one from the inside" telling it differently.

Isn't Hammett using rectos as his main amps? I remember in Guitar World's "Vulgar display of power" not too long ago Hammet's rig was featured, and it revolved around Dual recs and rack wahs (*insert pun here*), so maybe those are his?
