ANOTHER TOURMASTER BITES THE DUST

ok..my tourmaster is about to go on to power transformer #3...and this is on a amp that doesn't get used regularly either...I know it's the transformer taking a dump because I have the exact same symptoms as the 2 others that croaked. it is ok when 1st turned on but as soon as it gets hot, pilot light dims (doesn't go out, just dims) than the sound goes out (can hear it barely out of speakers).put it on standby for 5 -10 min.flip it back off, full power than as you play it sound cracks/lowers till barely nothing....I think I will be passing on another transformer and throwing it into the junk pile or if I do bite for a transformer maybe a mercury but the mercury unit isn't cheap either...
when I get a chance I will put it on the bench just to confirm, but from the symptoms and the learning experience from power transformer 1,safe to assume I am right....

Mercury makes power trannies for them, but last i checked NOT the proprietary output trannies for them

Any time i look at mine, i get super disgusted too.

The pilot light did flicker a lot too before mine died, now its flickering again...just dug it out and checked after i responded to your last post. Channel 4 still fuggin dead too...changed tubes back when it died, etc..checked inside as much as i could...nothing. it sucks.

Im sure this is all entertaining to those that check here and watch the car crashes as these amps puff up in smoke...but it sure sucks to be on the losing end of such a shit deal...i feel for ya man.

It's a shame too, Bruce was super helpful and nice to me when i messaged him to get my tranny.

I hear you dude....mine is fixed (no thanks to egnater) but I won't sell it to anyone for the simple fact that the amp is a time bomb.my biggest issue is the support.there are a lot of people out there who, like me have the knowledge of electricity (ohms law) and can probably repair these themselves instead of being forced to take them to authorized (i.e.-guys who have the schematics w/values) repair centers, and even they refrain/cringe looking at these because they know the amp will be back blown up relatively soon.the place that I went to to buy the schematics is top notch and a good group of guys but due to the contract with egnater could not sell me the schematics as it would violate their agreement, which I get.though they felt my pain as they have the same head for sale the last 5 years that they repaired and the original owner told them to keep it....so even though it probably took me longer without the schematics,i did fix it.will I ever use it,maybe, can I look at myself in the mirror if I sold it to somebody? no...

I realize this is a fairly old thread, but have you had a lot of problems with your tourmaster??

My power plant went out in like 2014. I talked to Vlad at egnater and he wasn't helpful at all. When a company says something like that is a "known issue" with those Amos, they should replace it for f'ing free. But they told me that since it wasn't"all of the amps". You have to pay. Total BS.

However, Mr egnater pm'ed me and was very helpful. Totally restored my faith in the company.

I'm having other problems with my 4212 now. I'm hoping it's simple. I just posted a thread about it
