Hung up on weight relief

I posted a while back that I was beginning my journey of shopping for my first Les Paul. Now I have a decent amount of coin, and I'm still hung up on finding a LP without weight relief. That of course implies I either buy a Norlin-era LP prior to '83 or save another year to get a RI. It's more of a principle than anything real. Part of me knows that it doesn't matter if the guitar looks good, plays good, etc. But I'm afraid in the back of my mind I'll always wished I was more patient. Do I need to quit obsessing over that little detail and move on?

I just picked up a blowout sale 2013 Traditional, no weight relief, nitro finish!
$1500 out the door. Go get em!

I got one myself for $1429. Nothing like an end-of-the-year Gibson Blowout Sale! :D

The new Traditional LPs arent weight relieved.

Really? Not even the 'swiss cheese' holes? I imagine you mean they're not chambered?

Anybody know if it's only the 2013 year model that isn't weight-relieved?

The older guitars that are Swiss cheesed weight relief at least have one piece bodies and are made of better woods available then now. The new Gibson production runs may not be chambered but can be up to 5 different pieces of wood or more used to make up the body. I actually love the way that my old lp classic plus sounds that is supposedly weight relieved. I wouldn't worry to much about it if it sounded great and played nice. An older one may hold value better also as compared to current production.

Right or wrong, I had been hung up on the weight relief thing for a long time as well. Picked up a 2013 Traditional and am not regretting the decision. It feels like I've always heard a Les Paul should, and despite a lot of talk about Gibson quality control over recent years the thing is definitely all there. And '57 Classics are among my favorite pickups anyway so being part of this package was another bonus for me. Nice guitar and I too bought it at the year end clearance levels with a few additional discounts I was able to muster up so at the end of the day got a really good price. My best deal of the year all things considered.

2014 isn't weight relieved either. Traditional model, and the Classic are both full woody :)

What about previous years?

Just beware that the newer solid-body Gibson's are going to be on the heavy side unless you go Custom Shop.

No doubt. That's not a problem for me tho. On a good week I play a total of 30 minutes. I've got 4 kids and only the oldest is out of diapers. Lol

Get over it. Who cares if it's weight relieved, chambered or they had a rat chew out some of the wood, as long as it sounds and plays good?

Yeah, but I have principles, man... PRINCIPLES!!

Some people care and you should be able to respect that. One might ask for instance who needs an ornately carved stained quilted maple pedalboard when a couple pieces of plywood glued together would also do the trick. But there are people who do and more power to them.
