Picked this up last week, had been lying in someone's cellar i think for a while , there was cobwebs and a dead spider inside when i changed the tubes out no jk , it required a clean/contact spray on the pots and what not from a tech, put some new preamp tubes in there rebias and hey presto, it's from 1983 vert inputs

previous owner bought some chinese matched Electron EL34Bs for the power section , i might change them (curious about trying KT77s or maybe another brand of EL34s) but tbh it already sounds killer, and frikkin loud to boot , very happy with this one

made a quick vid - with a p90 guitar nom nom nom

Seems a lot of 800 love these days. I want another. So, how's the previous owners favorite settings? :)

Congrats.

a little more gain and a boost at those settings, master at 3 or better, will be the hand of doom. shit will die. along with your hearing.

indeed =) , for some reason there's some mojo with the gain knob cranked, and despite this you can always pull the volume knob back to get cleaner tones which is awesome, super reactive amp

i have to try the previous owner's settings tomorrow in the practice space, i changed the preamp tubes at home and it's a bit too loud if i bump those EQ knobs up =) loud in a good way but not for the neighbours

haha true i didnt catch that. thats one way to do it for sure. my other guitarist has his that high on his 800, i keep my jmp around 6, and then boost the mess out of it.

I had picked up an attentuator and once I could get the master up I backed the gain down to around 6 or 7. Awesome tone. Of course, the attenuator made me gas for a 1959x, which I got. So was the beginning of my plexi love. My main amp for sure, but I'd love to get my hands on another 2203 or 2204 of some flavor....preferably and old JMP era model or early 80s 800 like the OP.

Imagining brushing off the cob webs got me kind of giddy.

Loving my 800's. Doing a metro zero loss loop in my 81' this week. Switched it over two EL-34's and threw a quad of winged c's in. This is the tone ive been looking for for many years... ill continue to tweak for a little bit but ive found that gain all the way up gives u the best tone unlike most amps. It takes the bright cap out of the circuit.

another advantage is that i just need one boost now =0  , tried some others but so far the BB preamp is the winner, don't think i'll need two on the board unless they're vastly different

yeah, dont mod this amp.boosted with a good o/d pedal, these amps ROCK!!! classic marshall crunch & roar  love my stock, boosted JCM 800 2204...

thanks =0 have since put my blackstar artisan up for sale (EU) , also a killer amp, but not quite as raawwwk, notes have some serious thump to them when pushed
