i put heavier strings on my bass tonight....it made the strings a little higher in the 5th to 12th fret... SO i turned the truss right/tight a couple of quarter turns during this evening & my strings are still not where i want them "Lower" ....so do i turn it another quarter tomorrow & see where i am? im afraid to keep turning obviously & theres no more real room to lower the strings at the bridge...

Sight down your neck as it is now.

Is it straight or does it have a back bow?

still has bow....its not terrible But strings could come down a touch more

By bow I'm assuming you mean and upwards bow right? Cos' if it has a back bow, it means that you'v over tightened.

If so, you can still make a quarter turn or two and let the neck settle for an hour or better yet, overnight.

a picture would definitely help, lets not get lost in translation

Which begs the question - Are you even turning it the right way? Don't be afraid to adjust your truss rod. Just use common sense and stop when you notice things getting really tight. In that case, it's best to back the nut all the way off, apply some anti-seize and then start over again.

I had a Les paul that had the same issue when I put heavier strings on it. I ended up having to have the nut cut for the heavier strings.

I'd let it sit for a day or two more. Truss rod adjustments are relatively easy but do require some patience IMO...

BTW, from what you described you are doing the right thing by tightening the rod...

Def let it sit, some guitars can take 2 days to set after adjusting.

Am I crazy or does the picture contradict itself?

The picture of the headstuck and nut shows to loosen you turn clockwise and the paragraph underneath shows to tighten you turn clockwise.

Obviously righty tighty but its funny the way the pic looks.

Looks correct to me. The little illustration shows the allen wrench turning to the right (clockwise) to tighten and counter-clockwise to loosen.

the very top picture is wrong...other 2 are kool

I don't see anything wrong with the top pic.

It shows clockwise to tighten and anti-clockwise to loosen.

I think it's just the wording that confusing people as it says tighten clockwise and uses term "tighten counter clockwise" instead of just saying loosen. Something every dude should know since old enough to ride a bike is righty tighty lefty loosey.

Dual action truss rods tighten in both directions.
