Anyone remember Electra guitars?

When I was a kid, I sent away for the Electra catalog and thought their idea of having effects modules inside the guitar was brilliant. (hey....I was a kid in the 70's!)

Anyways....in the mid-90's, I came across this Electra MPC super cheap and jumped on it. I even got 2 of the coolest effect cartridges for it (try finding THOSE for cheap!). Inside it I have the Octaver, which is only a 1 octave down grinding tone that rocks....and I also have the Flanger in there, which is probably the most bad-ass flanger I've ever heard. Both effects have a knob to control their mix, and a big on/off toggle. At times....it's almost like having a hand-controllable Whammy-pedal on your guitar.

It was an ugly dark sunburst when I bought it, so I sprayed it metallic silver. Truth be told, even with all of the cool info about this guitar....it's pretty much a cheapo axe that isn't good enough to use very much.....but I've been wanting to throw this out there to see who else remembers this company and their whole effects-cartridge concept.

Gary, That is sweet! The majority of Electra guitars are very nice. I have/had several Electras and I think they are badass. I'm not sure of the particular model you have but I love the one I have and the ones I've had. They're usually just a set of pups away from being pretty nice.
Anyway thanks for the refreshing topic but I doubt you'll get alot of responses on here due to the fact that it didn't cost an arm and a leg

Yea, man. $199 for the guitar....and I think he got me for about $40 a piece for the cartridges. To this day....I think it's the only Electra I've ever seen in person!

I mowed yards for all summer to get my first decent guitar - an electra MPC just like that. Was tobaccoburst mahogany. Somewhere I still have 8 or so of the modules too. Probably at my dad's house in the attic. I remember a phaser, fuzz, flange, some thing that had 'frog' in the name, octave, and a few others. They were pretty crazy sounding!

I have one that I bought in 84 that I still play every week. They were made in the Matsumoku guitar factory in Japan along with Aria Pro II and alot of Washburns as well. The value of these guitars is constantly rising because alot of people are realizing how good they truly are.

Keep an eye on this one,I'll bet it goes for over $600.

Peace

Maybe I should mention my hobby> I clean out attics of other people's dads. (at least until I find any boxes of unused modules!)

I hear ya, I always wanted to build a pedalboard with those connectors so I could just plug in the modules! Worst part about those guitars were the giant switches for turning on the modules - I think I've owned amps that had power switches smaller than that. I also had a les paul MPC that I gave to a friend of mine (without modules) - it actually is probably worth some coin now. Oh well.

I have a beat up Electra Les Paul body and neck (bolt-on) with like half the paint (cherry sunburst) warn off. I've always wanted to get some hardware for it and re-paint the thing. I bet it would sound killer

Sure if you're willing to part with it.

Wow this takes me back! I too had a Electra, Les paul style, it had 4 knobs in a row.. modules in the back. Very cool guitar. Too bad I ended up hocking it on the road so we could eat! LOL.. crackers and ketchup was getting mighty old! I miss that guitar.

I remember them too. Never had one, but I remember seeing them in some guitar or music mag back then, I had a subscription to GP, so maybe there? Dunno.

Nice to see!
