I thought I'd share a tidbit...

Charvel is getting ready to release a new axe that is a single cut Les paul style. Prototypes are promising...I was still saving up for the USA San Dimas, never got one. Now I'm stoked to see what this line will bring- hopefully Floyd Rose & stop tailpiece options.

You won't find this on Google, so I'm not sure how far away we are...Charvel seems to be putting out some serious quality the last few years, very exciting

THAT would break my new gear vow............what better to say fuck off to Gibson but to sling a sc with a Charvel logo

THIS.

I want a Charvel LP!!

Will it be an all poplar body in the shape of a LP, or will it be maple with mahogany? If it's just a shape, I wouldn't be into it. I think a Charvel should be Strat shape!

I don't have any more info- but what I offered is 100% reliable

That would be really cool. Wonder if it´s related to the Phil Collen Supreme that never materialized? From the little youtube clip it definitely looked like a sort of singlecut.

But anyhoo, a Charvel singlecut with a Floyd I´d buy in a heartbeat.

So, would a Gibson made Fender be equally as cool? I don't get the shocking coolness to this. I dig Charvel, and I dig Gibson, but what exactly is the wow factor here? There are already tons of Les Paul styles makers out there, not counting "Keeblers" if you will. Why would Charvel building a Les Paul garner interest? It's not like they are known for set neck, Les Paul style guitars. Is it cool simply because it is "anti Gibson?" In that case, they aren't even Charvel anyway, they are Fenders now. That is like raging against the machine with the machine. I am sure they will be great guitars, because Fender makes awesome stuff, but, yeah...I am missing the exciting part here. P.S., this wasn't directed at the O.P., but at the guys that seemed to indicate that this would be somehow different than another Les Paul styled guitar....just asking essentially.

I think people are hoping for a Charvel twist on it. Kind of like they did with their twist on the strat.

There's a lot of grumbling about Gibson quality and high prices. Conversely, there's a lot of praise on the current Charvel line....don't throw sand on my GAS fire, it burns!

Jackson is putting out some cool stuff too this year, especially if you are a bass player thats into metal but I cant say more than that.

Jackson made some "Les Pauls" a few years back didnt they?
I remember they were pretty decent.

Never as a production model unless you count that small bodied thing they did. They definitely did a few custom LPs prior to the FMIC buyout...Marty Friedman had one IIRC.

Bingo.

Better playability for starters like the PRS stuff would be very nice. Maybe think about the frets above 12?

I would definitely be interested in seeing this thing. Excited to see what comes out in 2011.

If it's a bolt on I will hate it. Any LP, Flying V or Explorer needs to be set neck or neck through. Even a great builder like Tom Anderson put out that single cutaway but as soon as O saw that it was a bolt on.. thought it looked like ass. Just doesn't seem right to me.

anytime someone tries to better the classic Gibson Les Paul it always reeks of fail!

The Les Paul may not be the perfect guitar but it's a classic for a reason..

I "put up" with the issues I have with Les Pauls (heavy, awkward to play due to body shape) because nothing sounds like a Les Paul! Otherwise, I use Strat shaped guitars. Why would I want a Charvel Les Paul shaped guitar, aside from the coolness factor?

That's kind of my point. Charvel's twist was to hotrod them. Better setups, rework the necks and better paintjobs. things like that...at least in the very beginning when guitarists brought their Fenders to Wayne. Then he just built his own. I love his old stuff, and the stuff from the other guys of the era that were doing the same thing, such as Schecter and Ellsworth, but today's Charvel...is Fender not Wayne. It would still be interesting to see, but I can't see Gibson really allowing Fender to put out a Les Paul. Just like Fender going after every company that was putting out strats. That doesn't strike anyone else as odd?
