Listening to some music this morning and "Back For More" popped on my mp3 player and it just reminds me of how distinctive Warren's style is. He's easily one of the best guitar slinger's of the 80's and is still tearing up today. He was a huge influence on my when I started playing back in 1985. What a great solo on this song:

 
I wish he did more outside of Ratt. It seemed like such a limited platform for his playing in that band.
 
Warren was my favorite guitarist of that era, just had the feel and note choice. Man that video is whacky.
 
been a long time since i seen that video, nikki sixx and tommy lee made a cameo in that video

Pearcy's vocal just ruin it for me on newer material..i still get into the "ratt ep","out of the cellar" and "invasion of your privacy" regularly though.

i think you just knocked me out of my Dio phase and i'll be jamming some Ratt today.

Warren´s playing is very cool, if a bit similar to Lynch at times. I wish he had been in a better band, though, I never got into Ratt except for a few tunes. But you know someone has serious skills when they´ve been in Whitesnake... Coverdale has had some major guitar talent in that band over the years; Sykes, Vandenberg, Vai, Viv Campbell, Warren, Steve Farris, Reb Beach and Doug Aldrich. Moody and Marsden were no slouches either, back there in the early days.
 
warren and lynch was and still are my 2 favorites from that era, when i was a kid i listened to them and today i still listen to them.
I also liked pearcy and liked his recorded vocals.
 
Warren is a huge influence and a great guy!

I got to meet him back stage when Ratt was touring with Jizzy on vocals.

Not to me. Lynch had monster chops and a more unique tone and feel IMHO. Listen to the Stars video, Lynch totally jumped out. The only other who did were Yngwie and Schon.

Are you kidding me? Nobody jumps out on the stars video except for Yngwie and Schon in parts. Everyone else sucks and has horrible tone...Lynch included.. sounds like a trebly mess. (which is funny because we are always trying to chase vintage tone.. well that vintage tone is vintage for a reason)

Warren is one if not my fav. player of that era. Phrasing, tone, chops...he had and STILL has it all. The only problem as already mentioned, is the fact that RATT really didn't have that strong of material (Reach for the Sky was an awesome album though) and although he did tour with whitesnake for a bit in the 90's, I remember seeing some of the live footage and his style just doesn't seem to fit.

I thought he jumped out a lot more than Schon did, and I love Neil. Different strokes.... :yes: You're right though, most of the solo's on there were unrecognizable until Yngwie ripped off that monster arpeggio/pedal tone lick.
 
Yeah Malmsteen cuts through with that sig. lick of his and even just looking at him, he knows he's the shit out of that litter.
 
When I was a freshman in high school, I wanted to be Warren DiMartini. I wore a bandana around my neck like him, wore eyeliner, and even painted a toy guitar I had since I was a kid to look like his "crossed swords" guitar. I was really skinny like him (back then) :) My friends even used to call me "Warren" as a nickname.

People laugh now about Ratt but for those of us that were playing guitar back in the 80s, we know Ratt was the shit back then, along with Lynch, Yngwie, and others. I was a huge Vivian Campbell fan back then when he was in DIO. I got pissed when he left for DL though. :)

Ya, there's something to this for sure...

Vid was great. Personally, although it's uber cheezy and shit, it's kinda fun to see how we all used to glob onto that some 25 years ago or so eh? I mean, it's so tacky, but it's fun - there's some joking around - and yes, of course, there's the pursed pornstar lips of all the musicians and they strum their guitars and whip them around in a completely unplayable manner, but whatever, we'll skip that part and say - ya, there's something to be said about the craft in those days :lol: :LOL:

Def Leppard, Dio, Accept, Aerosmith, Cindarella, Great White, G'n'R, Whitesnake, Warrant, Skid Row, Tesla, Ozzy, Poison, Metallica, Kingdom Come (remember those guys!?!?!?!), Priest... Shit, the airwaves back then were totally laden with glam pop metal boys, trying to figure out if it was gonna get truly nitty gritty, or if the colorful bandanas and lipstick were gonna have to stay...

I remember hearing back in the day that Warren took lessons from Lynch. Not sure though. Yeah Lynch killed the We Are Stars track cold, he also looked cool while playing, I also always liked Buck Darma from BOC on that vid, his swingin' feel was awesome and refreshing after 20 80's guitarists.

I hear him alright and he sounds like shit on this track..diff. strokes for diff folks. :thumbsup:

Warren did rip off a few of Lynch's licks though but for the most part he had his own style.

PS- they are back to back on the guitarists link for Stars and Malmsteen demolishes him in my opinion. Just saying for that particular session not in general and this does not reflect on any of the awesome stuff Lynch did in the 80's.
