Finished all the electrical instal (220 and 110 lines) in the future machine room and we broke the studio down, cleaned everything and reracked all the gear. Bought a separate rack for all the studio computer stuff (4 Apogee 16Xs - 48 outs and a Magma chassis) and a separate rack for the patchbays. We meet at Mates tomorrow at 11:30am and bring the board to Hemispheres Recording. Very exciting. So far things are going pretty smooth, kind of learning as I go but I have a lot of good people on board helping out.

Video of studio breakdown today:

Here's a pic of the board in the previous owners studio. This board is some serious rock-n-roll!

Congrats man, glad to see it going in! I'm just glad I'm not the guy that has to rewire all of that... I think after about the 14th hour my eyes would be glazed over and I'd be into studio "silly hour" land and eventually fall asleep under the console after I laughed my self to tears... from either insanity or sheer exhaustion!

Your going to have some killer sounding stuff coming out of that studio man!

How bad do you think the upkeep will be on a board of that size/complexity level?

Hopefully not to bad. The guy who is installing it has been teching the same board for 8 years and says it's been solid, he also recapped it and rebuilt one of the power supplies last year, so she should be rockin.

did it used to reside at conway studios?

No The Pass.

incredible arsenal of gear J

i'd love to hear some of your vocals tracked on that beast once you get comfortable with it. i'm all for warm fat vintage chains but every now and then the crystal airy sheen of a ssl brings the pain in an "in your face" way!

i got to play with the ssl super analogue channel strip when they debuted it at conway and it was pretty.

wow man, that's a huge step. I'm sure you must be nervous. You'll do great man! :D

Yeah this is jump into another league studio wise. I was pretty nervous for a few weeks now I'm just excited. Heading to the cartage company this morning to pick it up. Crazy! 9 years ago I started the studio with a Digi 001, SM58 and a Focusrite Green channel. :)

it is amazing man! but you're a really hard working guy, so everything is just paying off.

shit, and to think I was standing right there man, totally different setup! :o

wow, you gotta name her James...... :D

So here's the video from the load in from Mates Cartage. It was one of the most difficult things I've ever done. Taking the legs off an SSL is a major b**ch and the 200 lbs of cable dragging behind makes moving and navigating it through doorways a challenge. We finally figured out a method at the end. Anyway she is in. Amin and I spent a couple of hours cleaning the board, she looks amazing, just needed some TLC after sitting at Mates. Anyway everything is in place and we start hooking up the power supplies and computer today.

Video of day 2 & 3 of the instal. We got her powered up:

WOW!! Very cool and congrats James!! I get light headed even thinking of how hook all that equipment up let alone try to learn how to use it. Thats why I drive truck. And probably why I'm always BROKE         Good luck on an awesome journey!!

how do you reach all the way to turn that top knob

un fucking believeable James. way to go dude, that SSL board and power supply is a monster!

between that board and the analog recording i bet you've got one of the top, if not the top setup around now!

i love the versatility too, the patchbay allows you to mix and match for any tastes you please. all of that gear and nothing going to waste or being limited due to cross reference limitations.

love it
