Because it seems to happen every few months again and again, that anywhere on this world any guy is waking up from sleep, and after he's rubbed his eyes then he's writing on any forum something like "Jon is using B*, D*, E* or even F* amps meanwhile" or "I've seen Jon life with a $%/ amp..." or "Jon has used in a studio the "§$/($ amp..." or, or, ... Jon today has sent me some photos, which his guitar tech has taken today, showing Jon 'at work' for his new album:

@ snowdog: What about your new eyeglasses? You already got it?

Still any doubts anywhere? :gethim:

That's some slick engineering with the combination of the tubular buss for grounding and as a shield for those long tone stack runs. Nice work as always Larry.

Damn... this thread is giving me GAS...
... and you wouldn't mind, if I'd give you still some more

This setting here already is ultra-heavy - you don't need to dime any control:

And not only girls do have nice backs:

Some closer:

How does the tube's heat abscond? And how spiders can get to their warm places - at least the small ones?

No! The bottom plate doesn't have pestilence or spotted fever:

If you look some closer, then you can see, that this are the heads of special punch-in-bolts, so that the bottom stays absolutely flat:

Yes, I've tried to make this flat beast as sturdy as hell, so that even your grandkits can use this preamp for playing metal in the year 2097

You can leave your hat on! But I took off the cloak - for some more guts porn:

Well, my apologies if anyone got their feathers ruffled, I'm not affiliated with Diezel or anyone else. I will change my observation to : Jon was standing 5 feet away or so from a half stack with a Diezel head on it that appeared to be powered up, I was close enough to clearly see the logo. This was at a show in Cleveland a few years ago.

I was certainly not trying to discredit Larry Amplification in any way. His sound is one of the best.

The parallel loop is awesome. Is it after all preamp/eq and right before the output section?

Where might I hear one up close and personal?

No prob! All's well and we should have a beer together some time

You've probably seen the amp head from the other Iced Earth's guitar player Troy Seele?
But he meanwhile is playing through two Marshall JVM's on tour.

Exactly this way! The only 'correct' way

There aren't that much out yet and I'm a very slow amp builder, all doing myself, because I don't trust in anyone's skills.
But this week two of these beast will be shipped to Ontario/Canada.

So Larry, why don't you use preamp tube covers? Does an amp sound different with covers on or off. :D
I've never used preamp tube shields (covers) since I'm building my own amps - and that's meanwhile since 22 years.

And correct, there's a already not negligible difference in sound, or let's say more concrete - a difference in the highs response and overtone behaviour. If an amp does have too much highs, then there are 1,000 ways to kill 'em - but if you've lost this nice sparkling shimmering on top of the notes by suboptimal lead dress, too much shielded cables and/or due to these tube shields, than it's nearly impossible to get 'em back - get back only "these" w/o all that high mid grind and other garbage in the sound ;)

Although you must have high quality tube sockets, so that the tubes aren't sitting loose in it and don't twiggle around by vibrations or resonants due to the loudness. This not only is supporting the tube's microphony, it's additional adding unwanted noise.

I'm using in all of my amps NOS B9A preamp tube sockets after MIL specs, produced in 1962...1964, surplus from the US army/navy, where the preamp tubes are sitting in absolutely tight, so a tube shield isn't required.

Although you must be carefully on amps with the preamp tubes hanging upside down. Here the heat is creeping up into the tube socket, what widens up the socket's pins and still some vibration especially in combo amps (speaker close to the tubes barking)... and the tubes might fall out of their sockets :aww:

Larry

German engineering at its finest.

I've heard a lot about your amps, but I'm surprised I haven't seen any average player demo your amps or have clips of them online anywhere! I know they sound awesome though, just from listening to Iced Earth so much

$3600 US for a single rack space preamp?? Seriously??

And you've gotta wait 12 to 14 months for it to arrive??

For $3600 you should fly to the US, sleep on my couch, build it in my living room, and be finished within a week.
