Here are mine:

15. Sonata Arctica - For Sake of Revenge(Damn good live disc)

14. Dissection - Ragnrok(very Rockin, reminds me of groove immortal)

13. Gwar - Beyond Hell / Lamb of God - Sacrament (tie)

12. Paul Stanley - Live to Win(love that album)

11. John Mayer - Continuum(Excellent! His version of Axis Bold as Love is so awesome)

10. Ishahn- Adversary

9. Arsis - United in Regret

8. Slayer- Christ Illusion

7. Mercenary - The Hours that Remain

6. Bloodbound - Nosferatu( so awesome. Like Maiden and Tad Morose untied)

5. Iron Maiden -A Matter of Life and Death(excellent!)

4. Disarmonia Mundi- Mind Trick(kills anything soilwork has done in the past 4 years)

3. Pyramaze- Legend of the Bone Carver ( stood out to me this year...listened to a lot)

2. Heavenly - Virus( just really good execution and song writing)

1. Scar Symmetry - Pitch Black Progress (By far the standout to me. Every song is memorable).

Dissapointmets: Lacuna Coil's Karmacode was shit. 2 decent songs tops.

Evergrey's Monday Morning Apocolypse....just nothing catchy.

Firewind....Gus...give me more man....the new vocalist isn't as good either

Cellador....kinda annoying

Queensryche: Operation mindcrime II was just utter garbage. Next time a band insults one of the top albums ever made by doing a shitty followup should be shunned by the metal community. I mean, you don't see Slayer releasing South of Heaven II. Fuck them and all their shitty new stuff. Just play "I Dream in Infrared" and then shut up.

Well these are the only new albums I bought that were released in '06 so ..

Army Of Anyone- s/t
Mastodon- Blood Mountain
Audioslave- Revelations
Tool- 10,000 Days

I heard that song only. It sounded like a South Park parody song to me("You need a montage"). One of those 80's movie songs they would play during a training montage' sequence on Karate Kid. "Your the best ...around!"....... :lachtot:

Maybe the rest of the album is ok. Not sure. :bear:

Cool thread. Ill be checking out some of the recommendations, though im not so much a metalhead these days.

I think the only CD i bought that this year that was released in 06 was Iron Maiden, and it was a disappointment for me.

EDIT: Realised i got the new Winger CD too (dons flamesuit!). Thats a pretty cool disc as well. Not as good as Pull though, imo.

My top 10...

Iron Maiden - A Matter Of Life And Death
Arsis - United In Regret
Enforsaken - Sinners Intuition
Mercenary - The Hours That Remain
Into Eternity - The Scattering Of Ashes
Disarmonia Mundi - Mindtricks
Scar Symmetry - Pitch Black Progress
Blind Guardian - A Twist In The Myth
Amon Amarth - With Oden On Our Side
Agalloch - Ashes Against The Grain

These are the only albums I purchased that were released this year.

LoG - Sacrament
Really like Walk With Me in Hell, but after about 10 minutes the album starts to wear on me.

Ani DiFranco - Reprieve
Love it, maybe not as much as Knuckle Down, but it has one of my favourite Ani Songs.

Tom Waits - Orphans
It's Tom Waits, thus it rules.

Hammel On Trial - Songs For Parents Who Enjoy Drugs
Great album, great humor and great live show.

Ben Harper - Both Sides of the Gun
Love the first disc, second one is just ok.

Kris Kristofferson - This Old Road
A little too bare bones for my taste, but some nice songs.

Open Hand - You and Me
Mars Volta - Amputechture
Mastodon - Blood Mountain
Deftones - Saturday Night Wrists
Guthrie Govan - Erotic Cakes
Audioslave - Revelations
Helmet - Monochrome
Wired All Wrong - Break Out The Battletapes
Melvins - A Senile Animal
Isis - In the Absence of Truth

Biggest let down. Tool - "10,000 days" of simular riffs we've heard from you before. All MHO of course.

I dont have 10.....

Here are the ones I have enjoyed though.

Lamb Of God - Sacrament
Iron Maiden - A Matter of Life and Death
Tool - 10,000 days
Slayer - Christ Illusion
Deftones - Saturday Night Wrist

In no particular order:

Mastodon - Blood Mountain
Spawn Of Possession - Noctambulant
Amon Amarth - With Oden On Our Side
Amorphis - Eclipse
Gojira - From Mars To Sirius
Textures - Drawing Circles
Misery Index - Discordia
Paul Gilbert - Get Out Of My Yard
Tool - 10,000 Days

Biggest Letdowns:
Slayer - Christ Illusion
Helmet - Monochrome

A lot of great albums came out this year as far as underground-ish metal is concerned.

1 Tyr - Ragnarok
2 Suidakra - Caledonia
3 Keep Of Kalessin - Armada
4 Amon Amarth - With Oden On Our Side
5 Ihsahn - The Adversary
6 Agalloch - Ashes Against The Grain
7 Eluveitie - Spirit
8 Wolves In The Throne Room - Diadem Of 12 Stars
9 Aborym - Generator
10 Funerot - Invasion From The Death Dimension

Lots more that I haven't had a chance to listen to yet... Countess, Belphagor, Legion, Dawn Of Azazel, Azarath.

Reinkaos

1. Martyr - Feeding the Abscess
2. Sikth - Death of a Dead Day
3. Twisted Into Form

I still haven't bought many 06 releases, I need to catch up. Out of the few I have bought, these stuck out to me the most:
Vader- Impressions in Blood
Decapitated- Organic Hallucinosis
Cannibal Corpse- Kill
Krisiun- Assasination

Here are mine:

1. Guthrie Govan - Erotic Cakes
2. Bob Savage - Retrofitted

Everything else sucked or something...

Good list here. I agree the guitar riffs on are definitely rehashed on the new tool, but its the rhythmic patterns and Maynards different than usual vocal melodies make that record shine for me.

there were plenty, but my top 2 were Bob's Retrofitted (so much cool stuff on that disc!) and my own band's (Lucian Scott) disc, simply because it kicks major ass and im on it! :)

This was a pretty good good year for me:

Converge - No Heroes
Genghis Tron - Dead Mountain Mouth
These Arms Are Snakes - Easter
Burst - Origo
Horse The Band - Pizza
Andrew WK - Close Calls With Brick Walls
Thursday - A City By The Light Divided
Alexisonfire - Crisis
Modern Life Is War - My Love, My Way remastered
Mars Volta - Amputechture
An Albatross - Blessphemy (Of the Peace Beast Feastgiver and the Bear Warp Kumite)

There were some pretty big disappointments to me, though, particularly with Sparta, Unearth, and The Blood Brothers.

I also didn't find that Isis CD particularly exciting, although I didn't think it sucked. :?
