I'm getting a bit bored with my current amps.
Any thoughts on the Mesa DC-10s?

I'm hoping they'd be like a fatter, more modern take on the Mark series amps, while retaining the tightness.

I actually had a DC-5 over ten years ago, but crappy cabinets at the time and I don't really remember much about it. Had too many amps in the meantime

The DC 10 is a very versatile amp ; the clean channel is just as good as "Fender Clean", it also has a pull boost , reverb isn't as wet as Fender but very nice and usable, clean w/edge , bluesy/Jazzy ,it can hang with the best clean amps. The dirty channel is very agressive and toneful, much more versatile than a Marshall , great for Metal ,Hard Rock , what have you. I've got 2 DC 10's, head & combo. DC 10 is my desert island pick. To me the DC 10 out "Fenders" a Fender ... It out "Marshalls" a Marshall...it's like have Jimi Hendrix and Wes Montgomery in the same amp. 8) 8) 8) :D :D :D

The DC-10 is one of my favorite Mesa amps. I had one for a long time and I got all kinds of compliments on my tone and the amp served me well. I only got rid of it because I was moving onto something different.

I have a MkIV and a DC-5. The DC-5 is my favorite. The DC-10 is more wattage I think.

Thanks for the responces. How's the feel of the amp? I've heard some say its overly squishy? I'm looking for a fast, tight feel/responce.

I didn't think that it was squishy. It wasn't VHT-tight either. I played some thrashy stuff on it with no issues at all. If you can try it out before you buy it, I suggest that.

If you want tight, then get a Soldano HR-50. Had one and it was made for that stuff.

I had a DC-10 head for a while and everything that's been posted so far I found to be true as well. I would not consider it "tight" though. I consider my Fireball pretty tight. You could definitely get that Metallica/Mesa sound out of it, but it just didn't feel good to me. It wasn't squishy enough, but it also wasn't tight enough. Don't get me wrong, its an awesome amp, but I'm really picky and it just wasn't the flavor I was looking for.

Good info. Did you try a clean boost in front to tighten it up?

I have a DC-3 combo and I love it. I think the gain is great and the cleans are nice with just the right amount of reverb. My favorite amp I've owned/tried to date.

I used to hit the front with a Korg OVD-1, which is basically just a Tube Screamer. It really seemed to tighten it up a bit for "metal" parts.
