I hate those places. Everyone is a criminal, especially at the Sam Ash here. One time my mom was nice and bought me a gig bag, and the girl at the desk at the front asked her if there was a guitar in it. :retard:

Yeah, you are the jerk :P. They do that to everyone in every guitar center I've ever been to.

We get the same treatment here.
I am 28, usually in a suit/well dressed (i go on my lunch hour) and will still get treated like the 14 year old bum skaterkid.

I'd of done the same thing. Or I would have walked past the Nazi Geezer bitch and told him to fuck off when he tried to stop me. What's he going to do? Tackle you? Maybe I'm old and Cranky too, but I won't spend large amounts of money somewhere to be treated like a criminal.

I buy most of my stuff online anyway.

I hate that too. I debated doing what you did. Then I debated never going back. Now, I only go when I have to. Meanwhile, my brother (a drummer) goes there and gets the red carpet treatment. He has become good friends with the general manager and has some kind of code on my brother's name in the computer. When ever I go with him and they ring him up the guy behind the counter will say "well, that's as good or better than the employee discount."

....fuckers!

i don't have a problem with it, they do it at every GC i've ever been to.

if helps stop theft, and keeps prices low, it's allright by me.

thing that pisses me off is that they want your name and address for any little purchase.

Holy shit....talk about hyper sensitive!

Guitar Center has been doing that for years. Who cares!!!

.. I pay my $375 and on my way out heres what happens:

hairy d: "Thanks alot"(while showing my receipt and heading out the door).

Nazi Greeter Bitch: Actually reaches for my receipt!

hairy d: "Woah! Whats the problem? Did I do something wrong"?

Nazi Greeter Bitch: "No we do that to everyone"

hairy d: "Why? Did I look suspicious or put something in my pocket? Why do you treat me like a criminal"?

Nazi Greeter Bitch: "Its my job. I do it to eveyone."

hairy d: "Not me you dont. I dont shop where I receive zero respect as a customer".

hairy d: Proceeds back to string section to return everything and walk out with nothing.

Nice Helpful String Counter Guy: "Is there anything we can do to make it right"?

hairy d: "Apparently not".

Surely Im not the only one who demands respect as a consumer. Or am I in the wrong?

They do it at all the stores to my knowledge. I believe one reason is to audit the sales guys who might hook up their buddies with stuff but ring up a different receipt or something like that :D

I think Guitar Center does it more out of distrust of the sales guys than the customers

Ever look at the amps and guitars??? Half of the knobs, locking nut pieces, lamps.....are missing.

Someone said it right.....don't EVER fly man cause you are really not going to like it

That is mostly what its for. To make sure the customer paid for the strings (or whatever) that he is walking out with and that Timmy in accessories didn't ring up the 12-string set instead of the 6-string set. Believe me, it happens. Would you rather get home and realize you got fucked, or at the door as you are about to leave? And that girl only makes $7 an hour. Give her a break.

Yup, You the jerky...Sams and Walmart like to eyeball the receipt as well.

D

Yep! Same thing at COSTCO. The little Nazis stand at the exit waiting for you to pull up with $300 of goods and about 30-40 items. They grab your receipt, glance at the cart for 2 seconds and swipe a pink mark on it and tell you to have a nice day. Real fucking affective anti-theft procedures...

Yeah man. You're kind of a prick. They check your bag so that they don't have to cover the cost of people stealing shit. It means that they don't have to watch everybody in there and the sales guys can't pass their friends free shit that the store has to take a hit on.

Were you having a really bad day or something? Why so touchy man?

Unfortunately it's a part of today's society. Not only do they do that at GC, but they do that at most Electronic stores too. (in NJ). At any rate, that's how things are today. I always show them the receipt. I have nothing to hide and it's easier (and faster) to show them the receipt, than to argue.

First ever trip to GC?

If overreacting were an Olympic sport you would be wearing a gold medal around you neck right now.

Every Guitar Center in the nation checks/compares your receipt and merchandise when you leave and makes a mark on your paper receipt. Other stores (Fry's Electronics, etc.) do this as well. It's a simple few seconds at the door and if it helps them keep theft and employee fraud to a minimum then it helps them keep prices low. Why anyone would have a negative response to this is beyond me, and it's not rational.

Maybe some of that teenage angst present in the sales dewds and tire kicking saggy pants "shoppers" rubbed off on you and you felt the need to stick it to the man and take a stand for the people or something. If that little incident got your panties in a knot just wait until you encounter a real life problem.
