They do that at Costco too. I was fine with it until they started doing cavity searches.

People realised they could outsmart them.

Businesses realised having a secruity system and more personel and installation costs was more expensive and less effective than one guy checking people out.

Wow....the store is protecting themselves. If you have a problem have it with the scum criminals who steal...maybe if there was less of that prices wouldn't go up to compensate....

"lower your values"

PUUUH -LEASE!

Why dont they let everyone walk out with a bag....

Call me a jerk or hyper sensitive but I WONT get treated like a criminal. Its a pet peave of mine. I dont do business with gas stations that make you pre-pay either, etc, etc.

They should be able to tell who the criminals are. I mean, they wear shirts saying "I'm a thief" and have Lightbulbs flashing above their head.

The only solution I can think of is to buy Online!

Thieves steel stuff. Thats what a thief looks like. They should keep their eyes open and not bother me with it.

I took my hyper sensitive jerk ass to Centerville Music and didnt seem to have a problem getting treated with some respect... Go figure.

So...about 5ish years ago, I worked in a GC. I did work the door here and there before I got into operations/warehouse/inventory positions(and quit selling gear). I must say, they do that because half of the salespeople are retarded. No joke. You walk out the door with a mismatched serial number, good luck getting warranty repair anywhere. Seriously, I've dealt with authorized repair centers forever, and they will seriously give you the hardest time ever if anything doesn't match up with their records...and your proof of receipt w/matching numbers of course.

Oh yeah, I don't usually defend the bastards, but, they really aren't profiling anybody for theft, you'd be pissed if you checked your bag later and were missing some strings...it avoids complicated customer situations.

Also, inventory control/management does help with pricing and making sure that a store that has tons of stuff it can't sell quick enough is able to provide it once they've promised it to you.

...I only caught one person trying to replace a guitar in their case ever.

...it cracked everybody up...good times....

Im hypersensitive and cant handle a real problem? LOL. Im 39 years old and never have had a real problem I guess. Its great being me! Do you guys open your coats and empy your pockets for them as well? WTF? What happened to security cameras? Jeesh.

I guess you didn't read my post of the others that explained why they check receipts.

In any store where small and expensive merchandise is purchased in the interior of the store and can then be carried about inside the store before exiting the building, or where customer routinely carry unboxed purchased merchandise out themselves, it makes sense for the store to have some sort of security measures in place. When you factor in Guitar Center's average employee it makes it very easy to see why they have such a policy.

If you lived in Dallas you would have to become Amish and drive a horse and buggy, because they wouldn't let the Pope fill up without pre-paying around here.

+1 There is only a handful of pumps in Chicago and the outlying area that I know of. I can count em on one hand. I went out to Rockford and was surprised to see a non-pre-pay pump!

You must be real metal the way you walk up to the counter and happily hand over your receipt like all the other sheep. Do you ask them if theres anything else you could do to make their selling experience more enjoyable or profitable? :bang: :supz: :\m/:

You got it spot on mate. I put on a big smile :D and then ask the person to check all my bags (even the ones they forget). I love it so much I then salute the person for doing their job :salute: . It's pretty metal. 8)

Their selling experience cant get any more enjoyable than that! =D> Nor can my buying experience. \:D/

39 year olds someone said.....oooohhhh k....maybe 39/3....

You know dude, no one forced you to air your dirty laundry here. You presented your case and asked whether you were being a jerk. Surprise, lots of people think your behavior was stupid and you acted like a jerk. Instead of using that feedback to get a bearing on your actions, you make yourself into a bigger jerk by sporting an attitude and getting pissy at everyone who doesn't agree with you.
The final straw for me on this thread was you insinuating that someone wasn't "metal" because they handed over their receipt like a sheep... Really, do we not measure up to your metal standards because we choose not to be assholes to people trying to do a job. Way to live that 39 year old eternal rebel rock-n-roll fantasy. Seriously, take a step back and grow the fuck up.

I think this thread is great because it gives me a HUGE reality check that there really are people this ignorant in the world. Ever hear the saying never judge a book by it's cover? Look at priest... supposed to be perfect dedicated to god and free from sin, yet they don't think twice to throw it in a little boys ass. What about discrimination??? Lets pick on this guy because he looks like a thief... come to find out he is not. At the same time they are being checked some asshole a row over that "looks" like he is not a thief is walking out the door with something. Deal with it and grow the hell up.

The gas station thing is even more rediculous. You expect them to give you something they can't take back without paying first? Are they running a credit check on you to make sure they can trust pumping first? Oh wait a second, you'd flip out over a credit check because it makes you feel like a criminal. I at one point had to work at a gas station so I see first hand why they have to do that. You can not tell who is a thief and who is not. Some people pump gas and then fly the fuck out of there faster than you can imagine. Of course some poor shmuch cashier is gonna get in deep shit for that even though there is nothing they can do.

Do yourself and the people in your life and a favor and grow up. It will be better for you in the end.

if you didn't whip a dead fetus into the old hags face before you pouted like a girl your not metal. Death to false metal!!!!

really... think about what you said there for a second.

The thread title should be. "Look at me, I did this and I'm right. If you disagree you're a JERK!". Seems to be what is occuring... :?
