Like I said, George had better tone with that thing than I've heard from him the past 6 times I've seen him.
It was even better than his Bogner tone in 1992 and WAY better than his Soldano tone.

He used these amps until about the end of Dec '05 on that tour. At that point, he got his Randall modular stuff delivered to him on the road.
The Krank that was onstage was not used...

Keith

did he use a OD pedal? somehere said that is doesn't have that much gain?

i would love to get a wigle someday but i could never get it to get those great tones at lower vol.

Yep..in Toronto he used a TC Boost/Line Driver set as a clean boost only.
I have heard he used a Boss SD-1 Overdrive in the same manner at other shows on that tour.
I was actually pushing his pedals back to where he could reach as they kept sliding under his monitor near the end of the show... it was funny.
I guess he knows at 53 years old, he's got a bunch of "want-to-be" guitar players like myself coming to his shows to stand in front of him and dream... then leave and think about selling off all their gear!
The guy's just phenomenal!

Keith

He also used a Boss DD5 delay that was in FRONT of his rig chain.
Now... He ran it in stereo, one out to his main rig and the other side to his "other" amp turned backwards onstage.
So, when he hit the delay, you heard the direct signal thru his main rig and the delay thru an unknown amp turned around facing back wall.
Cool sound as the delay sounded like a true delay like when you scream accross a lake on a still summer night... lol

this amp, and the caswell #39, are the two plexis on roids I wanna try...

yes when i saw him, he had a ds-1 on his board. not sure if it was modded. the stock gain out of it w/ the master pulled (ch ganging) is mid gain.
you need a good od or boost to REALLY push it.
that is- unless it's been tinkered w/...

i have to agree w/ sq. the method stated above was one of the best lynch tones.
i was definitely pleased to get one of lynch's prototypes.

and yes he DID use these amps. primarily the one in the center. the one i have (i have the actual one on top w/ the skull knobs) was a functional backup and i heard it was used for some shows and soundchecks.

all my amps and recording gear are in 2 seperate places so if i can get some cool clips together you'll hear em. eventually.

Oh ya... He definitely used them!
It was kinda funny tho. His tech, Gerry was trying to tell me they were protos built by Bruce Egnater (Randall protos) that he gave to George to use while he was waiting for the Modular stuff to get delivered...
I just kinda laughed to myself at the politics of the industry.
Gerry was very nice tho and answered a ton of questions.

Keith

that would be cool man would love to hear clips. So with MV pulled out in med gain what is similar to? JCM800 stock?

does he have a website or is the email address the only way to contact him?..i found the page above looking for stuff on lynch ..and saw the amp and have been curious ever since

Jimmy does not have a website for his amps. I'll try and get some clips of the Purplexi up soon for you guys to check out. Its got a few cool features not found on Marshall clones that make it pretty flexable, but I find myself using it more like a Plexi and jumpering the channels in parallel than the series feature that you can do on these. I'll use my pedals for more gain.

How is this amp compared with the Wizard?

Keith

I'm glad I saw this thread. I had talked with Jimmy a few years ago about building me one of these amps, but his hectic schedule and parts sourcing problems at the time put it on hold. I just recieved an email back from him today stating that he will be glad to finally build me one. Can't wait to talk to him next week to iron out the details.

He has one of my amps doing some basic upkeep we talked about his amp though. Dan dude seriously clips!!
