Hey Duke.....That vid sounded great. Very 80s. After hearing it, I could totally tell that Vito Bravo used one back in the day. I see the resemblence in tone.
Thanks bro! yeah, it is pretty 80s sounding.. but it doesnt lack the tone to be able to do heavier stuff like Thrash metal, Death Metal, etc..

The 3TM is pretty flexable. the 3TM tube board actully has 2 new Tone Pots installed on it. One trimpot adjusts Mid/Low To High (Top Trimpot)and the other one adjusts the Mid To Low (Bottom Trimpot) balance.

cheers

Whenever I hear the modded clips, I prefer the Mod4mkII over the 3Tm. It just sounds warmer and awesome.
I guess you can sorta say the Mod4 MkII is sorta like a younger brother of the 3TM. the tone characteristcs is kinda similar in there, but the 3TM has a tad more aggressive gain and a tad more 3D sounding... and has a bit more gain too :D

I guess you guys can blame this clip for this whole thread. It's what got my mind thinking haha.

Ohhh, by the way.. That clip isn't a ADA MP-1, it is a POD.

Voodoo Amps also sells pre-modded MP-1s if you're interested in something a little different than the 3TM and 3.666 mods.

There are a bunch of clips up on Trace's site as well.

Thrash Metal IS 80's metal. :) It'll definitely do that no problems. In the late 80's and early 90's a number of notable Thrashers used the MP-1.

I'm thinking about getting myself one..I'm not sure yet though. The clips at voodooamps.com don't really satisfy me..Do the Voodoo modded MP-1's have enough gain for modern metal a la KsE/LOG?

Both of those bands a gratingly gained-out and modern/mesaish sounding, the MP-1 is more "Marshall from Hell". I'd say you'd be better off with a different preamp. A PODXT w/ Metal pack or Sansamp PSA-1 would be much better, for example.

Those are shred central! I didn't really like the Crunch tones, but the heavy riffin and Lead were some Lynch explosion! Nice!

I have the 3.666 too...and I'm supposed to be recording with my band this weekend. I'll post some clips when they're done.

I have no other way to record clips...sorry.

The question wasn't if it sounded like them, but if it has the same level of gain. I don't exepect KsE/LoG tone from it, mostly because they both use 6L6 tubes, I just wanted to know if I could get that level of gain.

We only demonstrated 75-80% of the total available gain on tap so there is still more gain on available that we did not demonstrate. To answer your question, yes you can play metal with a Voodoo Modified ADA MP-1 and over half of our customers play Metal. We are putting the finishing touches on a Pro Tools studio in the back portion of our facility so that we can record sound clips more often. If you have any other questions at all please feel free to email me directly (trace@voodooamps.com) or call the shop any time from Mon-Fri (9AM-5PM EST).

Have a great day! :)
