First post here and I'm a relatively new Herbert owner -- got my half stack about a month ago. I'm still amazed at all the different tones in mine so am wondering if other users would post their favorite settings, particularly for Ch. 3, but also the other two channels. Thanks...

In general I have all pots noon except the masters.

But some tips here:

The clean (depends on pickups) may need less mids and bass (depends also on your deep settings!). Keep in mind that the mid-cut works very very well with the clean channel too, esp. with humbuckers !

In minus mode channel two with the gain @ 40% you'll get the "Plexi-ish" stuff. Set to 60% its already "hotrodded" gain level. As I've said: everything noon here and I use the plus/minus sometimes during songs . . .

Same for the lead channel. If you need it for mega-gain-rythms, I'd drop the gain to 35%, use a bit of the mid cut and master 2 . . .

Deep around noon normally (except your cab can't handle it  ) and I have the presence up to 65-75% sometimes, depending on the location.

80% of the time I'm on ch 2 +
gain: 2
bass: 11 - 12
middle: 11 -12
treble : 2 - 3
midcut around noon

With these settings I get a good metal rythm sound with my Hamer standard (duncan custom in the bridge)

For lead I use more of less the same settings on ch 3 except the midcut and a little more mids.

Had to buy a bad monkey for slighty overdriven leads due to the lack of +/- switching

Can't remember the deep and presence settings since I haven't played it for a month.

Edit: Is there a different voicing on master 1 and 2? I thought I heard a difference, but maybe it was only in my mind

I'll have to check mine, but man you guys play loud. My volumes hover around nine or ten. :?

I have to play loud, my drummer & singer are loud. I'm always telling my bass player to turn up. I like to feel the bass. I'm not a guitar hog either. I always play at a perfect volume where everything blends together. If you EQ an amp correctly with mids, you don't need to be as loud. If you scoop the mids, you really have to play loud!

I run the MIDcut on all three Channel.
Intensity at 2:30 and Level at 3:00. I found the Level affects the tone of the amp a huge amount. Higher settings give you more cut.
For Channel 2 I run the gain at 1:00
Bass at 10:00
MID at 12:00
Treble at 2:00
Volume at 12:00

Channel 3 Gain 12:00
Bass 10:00
MID 12:00
Treble 2:00
Global Depp 12:00 Presence 2:00

All settings are 1-10.

CHANNEL 1
Treble 5
Mid 4
Bass 6
Volume 5

CHANNEL 2 (+)
Gain 6
Treble 6
Mids 6.5
Bass 6
Volume to taste

I use (-) on this with Gain on around 4, with the mid position on my JP for some cool stratty sounds.
Also, Mid-Cut is set with Intensity to 7 and Level to 6 and I engage that for "modern" metal tones.

CHANNEL 3
Gain 7
Treble 4
Mid 7
Bass 6
Volume to taste

I normally run the gain at about 5.5 on ch3 for leads, clean boosted with my Maxon OD808, but lately i've been plugging straight in.

GLOBAL SETTINGS
Presence 3
Deep 5

My masters depend on where i'm playing, but obviously Master 2 gets set a little bit louder if i'm wanting a solo boost.

Did anyone answer this? I thought it might be true as well!?! I'm not sure whether I'm imagining it though as I haven't played it enough; I only got my Herbie mid december, it was unwell and kept sicking up tubes, and I haven't played it for about a month as it's been to Bad Steben Hospital to have an operation on by Dr. Peter. :kotz:

Maybe the Consultant; Dr. Olaf knows the answer!

My Herbie might be back today on valentine's day! How ironic!

My settings for all three channels are very similar to everyone else. As opposed to adding an additional external stomp for clean boost, I have gotten into using the switchable serial loop with the gain controllable parallel loop. This is a nice option if you don't run things in the loops....I set the parallel loop return a little hot (about 2 o'clock) and run an instrument cable from the switched loop send to the parallel loop return...Instant switchable clean boost...If you use the switchable loop for external effects, you can still use the parallel loop for boost, just not switchable...This isn't rocket science and I figure most of you guys have tried this because it hints at this setup in the manual....If that's the case...nevermind...

I was told that when engauging the V2, there is an extra gain stage that is utilized. I noticed it is MUCH fuller/thicker/beafier when engauged on my Herbert. Enough so to where I always use it

Is this true?
