Hey guys,

I´m new to the whole "Rack" thing. I´m getting some toys for my Herbert to play with.

This is what I´m thinking about:
Furman PL Plus (duh...)
Korg DTR-1 (already got that one)
TC G-Major
BBE 482i (or the Sonic Stomp)
and maybe a DBX 166A

My question is: What´s the best way to connect everything with the Herbert? And what cables would u guys recommend?

My questions for Peter are: You told me that the best way to get that huge Metal sound is to put a quartett of 6550s an two EL34s into the Herbert. What brand do u recommend for those?
And is it possible to get a custom 4x12" Frontloaded with Salt´n Pepper Grill and X-pattern speakers (Diezel Custom, Celestion V30)?
Just send me a pm, Peter. THX!!!

Ok!
All the power cables from your amp and rack gear will go to Furman. From Furman you connect to the wall socket.
From Channel 1 (Clean) send output jack send the signal to the tuner
Put G-Major on the general parallel loop of the head
Put BBE on the general serial loop of the head.
As a rule tone shaping tools like gates, compressors,EQ etc go to serial loops
Effects like delays and choruses go to the parallel loops.
Hope I helped.

6550 ...... SED
EL34 ...... Chinese

I would check out the TC Electronic G-Sharp before getting the G-Major. It takes midi, but is a lot simpler to work.
If you want a great compressor, audition the Electro Harmonix Black Finger.

I had a totally digital rack, including the X-Wire, DBX DDP digital compressor, T.C. G-Force, Furman power regulator, and some other goodies, and it was just a lot of things that degraded the sound and made life extremely complicated.

Now I use a pedalboard for compressor, wireless, tuner, EQ and wah running through a Radial Loopbone and set the one space T.C. rack for delay on top of the amp. It sounds far better, is easier to work, set up and use overall and there are no complications.
This is just my personal opinion, and I do wish you good luck with the rack idea. It works for some, and for others it is overkill. You will find out shortly after assembling everything and gigging a few times with it.

Thx everybody!!!
I´m definitely goin´ for the G-Major. A decent price for a good unit!

I´m just wondering...well, I found two comments from Master Duesentrieb and Peter Diezel on the board:

Duesentrieb wrote:
I'm using mine in the serial loop. A bandmate helps me to find the correct positions for the in/out pots until the volume is the same as without anything in the loop. I use very very small amounts of fx though. For cleans some chorus (mix maybe 25%) and for leads a reverb (10% or so).

Peter Diezel wrote:
Please go serial. You can use the compressor and the noise gate.

So I´m thinking of putting the G-Major in the serial loop. Just to be able to use the compressor and the gate...

Is that right?
