I'm the last man on earth to play a JVM

Pete,

Could you get silver jubilee tones out of the amp, if so which channel and mode? What about JCM800 tones?

I haven't played a JVM either, I seem to be trending toward simple amps recently.

 You've got to be when shopping for a Cameron. You have to go after them. Can't sit around on your thumbs. You know you have dibs on it if by chance I lose my job, my house burns down and my wife gets sick all at the same time. Because that's what it will take to sell it. :hys:

Sorry. :D

In all reality, I still think it is a great amp for the money. yes, there are some things that could have been done with the build quality to ease peoples minds but that would also raise the price of the amp. To my knowledge there is no other amp with these features that you can buy for that price. As I have said before, You guys would probably hate me if I told you the price I could get one for ;)

I don't think anyone would hate you if you got them one at that price ;)

I'm curious though....did you change the tubes in your JVM?

No, same tubes because Ralph had my amp for several weeks.

I have yet to play the JVM, but all of my local shop dropped Marshall in favor of Mesa. They also added Bogner.

You're not the last guy not to play one.....I haven't and I don't see myself doing so anytime. Not a dig on the amp....just from what I've heard/read, it doesn't sound like my cup of tea.

I agree that those knobs make me nervous, but I've done a few gigs with it already and haven't had problems. Speaking of that, I was about to sell the amp, then came to my senses. I used it again at an all nighter last night and it performed wonderfully.

I thought for sure you'd like it more than this!

I'd like it a lot more if I wasn't worried about how well it will last. I'm not throwing amps into a club like a dwarf tosser, but I don't use rack cases and such either. I think I'd probably dig it a lot more after you and others have gigged it heavily for a year or so. I'm letting everyone beta test it for me. It is the best sounding new marshall I've heard in a while for sure.

Pete

I know Pete and Chris gig heavy but to the guys that do not gig I do not see knobs flying off in the basement or spare bedrooms

Stratontone,

is it like a jsx where you can shred effortlessly at low levels?

peavey seem to have the master volume down pat

Yup, at low volumes you could go nuts. I ran the OD2 red gain 1/2 way up and there was PLENTY of gain for low volume shredding.

I still havent played one.

Oh sorry, you said "last person on earth" North Dakota hasnt actually been part of the earth for a long time. My mistake.

youre not the last one..i havent played one yet, and really have not had the urge to for some reason

Sorry to hear it Pete - I figured you'd give mine a run, but I guess GC is more convenient.

The knobs don't worry me in the least. If I was gigging as a guitarist, I'd still not worry about it. Yeah, they don't "feel" like standard pots, but so what? IMO, anything that would smack around the knobs on the JVM enough to break them, would be enough to break any other "standard" pot on other big-name amps.

If you have a MK IV pot pulled say good bye :) I will admit that I have never tried to move a pot before and I have never read a review stating....... " I could hang a 10 pound dumbell from the gain pot!!!!!"

I hear ya, but I don't think that's the case. I could be wrong, though... But I think the possibiliy of breaking the plastic pot posts on the JVM by dropping a guitar or mic stand into the faceplate is much higher than on other amps. Like I said, I could be wrong.

With that said, I'm having great luck gigging with mine. I'm on around gig #10 so far and not a single issue with the amp.

Given the close proximity of the knobs on the JVM, there's more potential that any damage would be absorbed by more than one pot-shaft, sharing the load between 2-4 (or more) pots...

Compare that with a JCM 800 or a 5150, where the knobs are more spread out something hits that, it's likely to place all of it's load into one shaft.

No jokes about have "load" and "shaft" in the same reply!!! :D
