LOL Ralphie i did the same thing last november at the Music Live convention here in the UK. I stood at the Cornford stand for hours, got to meet Guthrie and say hello and then pretty much stood there watching him play for another hour! I looked like some kind of stalker but i was just honestly blown away by his playing

He was playing the MK50II and I think i liked it better than the original MK50!

Nothing tops me going into the Dean area at NAMM and running into Helmuthead himself Batio and Cooley both plugged in

I walk around the corner and those two are just wanking their asses off, before I could catch myself I starting to laugh my ass up due to the amount of freaking notes

A MK50H not the II over here for $2400

Music Zoo

Did you see it / play it in person Carl? Does it have a black headshell by chance? I was talking to them about buying one just a week or so ago, but they wanted over $2700 for it.

He is one scary Mo fo isn't he!! I tell you what, Hanging with Ron thal was just as scary. I don't think many people know just how good Ron is. He was playing jazz standards in front of me and then went into the over the top shred stuff!! I knew Ron was amazing but I had no idea just how many styles he had underneath his belt.

Oh man Guthrie is scary good, he was playing things that would have the most advanced shredders scratching their heads!! Ron is another phenomenal player too, and i think i would be amazed if i got to watch him play in person! Ron seems like a cool guy also, and Guthrie was so chilled out its untrue. I live near Guthrie, he only lives about 15mins from my house! Spotted him a couple of times on the way home, you can hardly mistake him with the hair and beard :D

Monster player.......enjoyed that immensely...thanks for posting the link Velcro !!!

utilise powertube distortion at lower volumes? how would that work?

i've tried the hellcat, but not the mk50 (either version), so I can't compare, by the way.

I'm not sure exactly how it works -some kind of power attenuator?- but I'm pretty sure the Elmwood Modena uses Powertube distortion for the 'drive boost' on it. And as the MK II has both gain and overdrive control on channel 2, I think this might be the case as well.

Always wished I could afford the MK-II
How much? 3K?
Tone Merchants in Orange, by L.A., has it list priced at 3,995 - they just sold the 1 they had in stock. I was thinking of going down there this past Monday and checking out the Cornfords and CAA OD 100s they have but I would have to trade in my Einstein to get either one. Just can't part with Einy..he sounds too good.
Also a 6 hour drive from where I live and I would have been PISSED if I went there and the MK II was gone. They had that in stock for over 2 months and it just sold. :aww:

Well, you know, I'm old school. When I see a whore of your calibre, I gotta tip my hat and show respect. :D

Ok whores...here is a response from a Cornford dealer about the MK II in regards to the gain and overdrive controls if anyone really cares.

"The Gain on the second channel sets the overall gain level for that
channel. The Overdrive knob acts like a "gain boost", for lack of a
better term; you can switch back and forth between the two settings via
the provided footwswitch, so you have kind of a pseudo 3-channel
amp...clean, crunch and lead. To my ears, the MK II has about the same
gain as the regular MK50. "

There you have it. Straight from a Cornford expert.
