There would be so many notes, in the space of 2 hours. It would just be frightening.

I can think of faster guitarists, but it wouldn't be tasteful. The above mentioned have the ability to shred and pick the right notes as well. ;)

You know i have an old interview with Randy from i think 1979 where Randy said he wanted to record an all instrumental album with classical influences. And he was going to quit Ozzy, he was sick and tired of that whole scene and touring and it sounds like he felt like he was limiting himself.

Sure, Yngwie had/has better lead playing chops than Randy had, but we can only imagine what Randy had in store for us. IMHO, he wrote much better songs than Yngwie could dream off, and Randy was extremely tasty in his note choice and phrases. IMHO, Yngwie never wrote anything that touches Revelation Mother Earth.
I have some Ozzy bootlegs with Randy absolutely ripping it up. Some of the most amazing playing I have ever heard. He had great chops and a vast repertoire of ideas and licks.
Yngwie has great chops and ,uh, chops. He's playing the same old shit he was 25 years ago. Only difference is that back then it was fresh and exciting and now it's the same old shit. I wish he would learn some new licks and stop writing tunes about Dungeons and Dragons. He has some nice Blues licks...he should do some more of that. He's still one of the best players and this is hard to beat.....

couldnt agree with this more! Yngwie got off to a great start ( Alcatrazz, Rising Force)

but the minute he shifted to writing his own vocal type songs it went downhill fast...

I can't tell you how many faceless bad Rainbow inspired pop rock albums I wasted my money on wanting the next "Rising Force"

If Yngwie would have collaborated with a stronger writer he probobly would have been a household name...

As long as you don't mind repetition, he's great.

Steve
And that just sums about it sums it up perfectly. Technically, he's amazing. As a song writer... Well you're just kidding yourself...

I do not listen to Yngwie to tap my foot along to a catchy polished song about losing some girl....I listen to him bringing the pain.

Maybe you guys should just load the White Stripes and get that foot tapping

Exactly. I dont listen to it for songs either. Thats why I can only take like 15 minutes of it before I want to shoot myself in the fucking face. Its get to the point of being un-musical. Its wank for the sake of wank. If thats your thing, awesome.

I prefer "music."

Hey man......I gots me a special pickup arriving at my house today

I would try to listen to Yngwie for just the playing..but that to me is some of the most unfun listening ever...plus if you heard the first Rising force disc..you heard the best of what he could do..it never got better...

towards the end of the 80's it seemed like songs were sped up to get to the big solo...ZZZZZZZZ!!!!

I saw him live a couple hears ago and it was impressive for 15 minutes..

after hearing him wail the same licks ( played perfectly and amazingly of coure) over and over ...I found the bar in the back of the club alot more fun...

you can't deny his ability , tone and phrasing, influence..unfortunatley it wrapped around tunes that are duller than the latest yanni album...

but put on "Far Beyond The Sun" and man ..that is the top of the heap for sure...amzing!!

I saw him live a few years back as well, and for them first 45 minutes, I was right up front, with a huge grin on my face. For that 45 minutes it was awesome. After that, I was like, "enough," and left. :o

the show I saw George Lynch opened up and I really liked him better..

sure he is not as technical, but those old goofy songs keep your foot tapping and a Huge shit eating grin on your face!! And the solos were just the icing on the cake

I also saw Yngwie open for Ac/Dc and Dio back in the 80's and in a 35 minute set he killed....

Ill take George Lynch over Yngwie any day. George has the tasty phrasing that I love. If he wants to, he can do some tasty Jimi/Trower style stuff that is awesome.

Now thats sounds like the perfect context for an Yngwie show. :D
