Using light strings won't give you tone.

EMG ACTIVE P/U's SOUND LIKE CRAP
That's another myth that needs an answer, did they go up or down on voltage. Most will say they went down to cause more power amp distortion. But who really knows with that camp?Digital Jams":7ad46 said::|::QBB:
Eddie's tech stated 140VAC though during the now famous interview, no bias job is going to help you there

great sounding guitar + great sounding amp + great sound speakers/cab =dave_mc":77d17 said::|::QBB:
it is mostly the amp though (at least if you take extreme examples, say a recto and then a fender twin).
guitar is obviously important too, of course.
EDIT: i think the problem with most of these myths is, that someone who doesn't know too much about guitar will read a post with mine, with several qualifying factors (such as "if you take extreme examples", or "guitar is important too"), and will then repeat my post without the qualifying factors, as gospel.

I don't think chasing just amps is going to land you your 'ideal' tone...the guitar and cab must be highly thought about/searched too.
Actually your tone begins with the guitar, so IMO it's the most critical piece.

That's why I recently bought the EBMM Sil...I was in a music store and was trying a lot of different guitars with the new Mesa Express 1x12 combo...the Sil I tried made all the other high priced guitars (ibanez, fender gibson...)I tried through the Mesa sound not very good at all. It reminded me how important the guitar is and how I couldn't leave the store without putting some money down on that guitar to hold it.Digital Jams":f1699 said:
