I had an inkling to record my deal-of-the-century JMP-1. It's a pretty fucked up tune, but I guess that's what happens when your creativity goes all ADD. The rhythm was one take and the lead was two (the first take was all clipped to hell).

The mix is pretty rough since I'm still getting used to my E-MU 0404. The rhythm tracks are OD1 panned hard left and right, and the lead is OD2 straight up the middle with a touch of delay. Drums are EZ Drummer.

Enjoy?

Not bad man. I've always been interested in the JMP-1. How does it handle really heavy stuff?

Pretty well if you like the Marshall voicing. It likes my Bad Monkey for sure, though you don't really need it with OD2. I prefer the chunk of OD1 for rhythm, though. The bass boost switch is almost useless if you ask me, all it does it make things way more woofy than they need to be. You can get thick metal tones on OD2, though it's a bit more fuzzy if you crank the gain. The midrange EQ has a VERY wide range, from super-honky to super-scooped. In fact, all the controls have a pretty wide range.

I don't play much detuned metal, so I can't comment on that, though I've got an Agile 2800 tuned to C that I could try...

I will say that if you can snatch one up used it's one of the best preamps for the money IMHO. I got mine for $200 used from the idiots at GC :D

It would be cool if you could post a heavy clip with the Agile in C, something with harmonies maybe.

:D

I'm terrible at harmonizing, though it's ironic that the last detuned clip I did of that guitar contained some bad harmonizing.....

It's actually drop-C, not C standard. Can't go any lower with the 10s that are on it already :P

Warning: contains bad harmonizing and even worse finger tapping :D Enjoy!

Damn that sounds pretty chunky, nice score for 200 smackers

I dig it

When I had it, Bass Shift was always on even on Clean Channels :D

Haha, thanks man! :)

What were your settings there just out of curiosity?

I'm at work so I wouldn't be able to tell you off the top of my head. I did remember to mention, though, that those two clips are direct into Cubase SX 3 with cab impulses via the Voxengo Boogex plugin. I think the mids were mildly scooped, treble flat and presence and bass boosted on the detuned clip.

Ah, so these clips weren't even with a cab then?

I've always thought it was a bit "fake" sounding, but you were probably running an entirely different setup from me...
