Damn I forgot how good Vai's Deeper the Love solo was!

this album is the perfect example of why the hairmetal scene died...

Don't blame Nirvana or Mtv..

blame the label for pushing dire crap like this...

Coverdale was looking so silly..the guy was probobly pushing mid 40's at the time

Vai was my favorite at the time and I couldnt make it through this disc at all..

other than always enjoying busting digijam's chops about the vai thing :D

vai always adds this overt silliness to everything he does, from posing to dress to whammy wah pitch shifted hungarian minor scales, under the umbrella of "exotic", or maybe just a really bad sense of musical humor, which makes me totally uninterested in what he has to offer.

he did it to alcatrazz as well as whitesnake...his sense of odd timing and using the vibrato bar to steer melody is just so cheap and gimmicky in his hands

and here's the big newsflash:

he gyrates as if he has something to offer women (at least i hope he is intending that nonsense for women) and bottom line is he looks more like a forbidden byproduct of dracula/tiny tim/henry kissenger's huffrag-fueled man love summit, consumated in the mud of a mexican outhouse.

I saw Whitesnake on this tour. There was more tongue lashing and monitor humping going on than a B-rate porn. Really, i think the concert was over, the crowd left, but the band kept air humping and posing to the wee hours of the night. And there was more poodle puff on that stage than at Euckanuba's poodle championship! :D

Seriously though, the concert was mixed awefully bad. You couldn't decipher the guitars in the mix. All you could hear was Coverdale and kick drums. The drums were overpowering everything else.

Coverdale went from playing Honest funk, r&b rock with Deep Purple and the early Whitesnake..to full blown poofy haired radio pop rock,...

and any band with Rudy Sarzo in it tends to go up on the gay-o-meter....

the scariest part was these guys were in there 30's - 40's acting like this

Sounds like a secret attraction to me. :)

Vai was in his 20s, I know because he was born the same year my mother was

the bottom line is if eddie can kick the junk, and yngwie can melt off the twinkies, mr. ham sandwich can still pull out of his transylvanian spiral.

1) he should have never let go of the ALS bogner.

2) he needs a les paul with no floyd, or a hardtail strat.
i think he won't be able to justify all the slimey humpy moves without a doingy bar.

3) eat something steve. and bury your bad horsie in a time capsule.

4) strive to play conventional earth music and have real producers slap you down when you try those disney electric parade/mario brothers solos while guesting on diana krall's next CD.

Sorry Scott. Pat just nails everything I dislike about Vai too. I think that solo totally missed the mark. Not technically, obviously. It's flawless technically.

I like vai to a certain extent. sometimes I get sick of the guitar wizardry.
He was great with DLR, good with whitesnake. and I hated him with alcatrazz.

I thought his solo fit well in that song even if the song is shit. 'fool for your loving' on that album is way better.

I saw whitesnake with doug aldrich and he owned it!

HAHAHAHA  You do have a way with words, Pat.

I think Vai did a fantastic job in DLR`s band. Eat em and smile and Scyscraper are just classics in my ears :)

Just to let you know Pat that you still OWN............but now for my retort :gethim:

When Eddie grabs a lester and drops the bar I will listen to your rant about Steve's abuse......EVH's solos are as predictible as the senate passing the bill for their annual raise in 34 seconds flat. You can follow along with his solos and be 2 minutes ahead in your mind what he is going to do.

Bogner.....I agree his tone is lacking with his current rig and would love to get him behind a Fuchs TDS or MK IV. Ed is still pissed off at that chitown NAMM in 87 when the Kramer guys ran to the head to toss their cookies when the vail dropped and the JEM and RG series were released.....so much for Ed's mission to bankrupt Fender with Kramer

Yngwie.....can't say nothing bad about the 2003 G3 bringer of the pain but are you should that Yngwie maybe upstaged Ham Sammich just a tad on the 80s dork-o-meter? The crowd is still receiving their daily dosage of downers to sooth the pain of being sprayed with Yngwie ball sack sweat from 543235 leg kicks.

You being the connoissuer of musicians that elevate the realm of what a guitarist should be should be thankful for the dark one's record label.......some of your faves you would not have without him.

Ed??? Has not done crap for nobody but himself while he hid behind pop songs that now play in elevators and yuppies with Eddie Bauer laptop bags tap their feet along to it.

That said Ed was my reason to pick up the guitar and fondly remember my first time hearing eruption and hated Vai for making every VH song look soooooooooo easy during the DLR shows. Section 101 2nd row I watched in horror as Vai and Sheehan just served notice who the new bad boys were.........not the same boss indeed.

I have EVO passes for his Oct show in CT, can't wait :D

Plus who are you fooling? You were as giddy as a junior getting ready for her first prom waiting for Gilbert.....the 80s neon flame is still in you Pat and you cannot fool me

I do not like some of the crap either, he totally ruined Blue Powder on the Astoria show with that stupid whammy bar banging aginst the strings at the end.

I don't know, this solo just comes off as perfect and super sexy sounding if that makes sense

i love you bro bro! nice work!

unflappable!

tis true vh is more about poundcake nonsense than i'm the one fury these days, but homeslice parted the shred red sea so he'll always be the icon.

yjm is cool because he lost the greasy chinned distended bowel look in favor of muttonchops, and he also hit the scene like a meteor and innovated.

i thought vai w/ roth live at the forum on EAS tour was brilliant, particularly because i was in the nosebleeds and couldn't *see* vai worth squat, and even at that roth IS the showman and nobody is gonna upstage him at that game, and sure his label is a great thing

but i swear you are the only reason i still give vai half a chance, because vai never set himself up on musical merit, just quirky melody, tricks and showoff gimmicks, so his musical *legacy* will be how far he divebombed with his tongue while he wiggled his fingers over the neck like a magician and humped the air towards an army of 13 year old boys, ala don ho.

and perhaps if he manages to hear enough of the complaints, like eddie and the HC evh photoshop thread, he may just shed the fruitcup wizardry and huck down a musical masterpiece.
i just think he needs to collaborate with someone because if he hasn't done it by now....

blue powder is the only thing i'd ever point to as a piece of music by vai that was killer from beginning to end. i was blown away by that little black soundpage pullout from guitar player magazine, which is where he debuted that song, as a demo for a carvin amp!
