thanks Ed...The melodic minor/whole tone territory is still a little new to me. I wish I can hear those things in my head ALL the time..especially when i listen to guys like Scott Henderson who I think is one of the most scariest guitarist on the planet!!
If you dig SH go to his source and see where it came from..Don Mock.

Wouldn't it be easier to say alt pick it out first if you were a better picker to get the memory retention going and then proceed to tearing tendons?
The idea is not about making it easier but to get your left hand in shape.

Exactly. If it's easier he wants, my methodology is well suited for that.

Agreed, I am just talking about getting the progression memorized then let the beating start. I find it easier to get the muscle retention going by alt picking since I am decent at that then start beating the left hand.

Well in order to memorize the patterns yes. In order to get it into muscle memory no.
This is where one's ego gets in the way. Don't worry about flubbing through it, or having to play it reeeeeeeally slow first.

cool. I heard about that...regarding Don Mock. I think he has some instructionals out right?

heres one I do all the time: on each string EADGBE

10-13-17-13-10 (1-2-4)....10-13-10-15-10-17-10-13-10-15-10 (1-2-3-4) pattern as high as can go in 1/2 steps.

and...

5-8-5-10-5-8-5-10-8-5 (1-3-4)
5-7-5-10-5-7-10-7-5 (1-2-4) pattern as low as you can stretch and as high as can go.

I pick the first note only...really works the forearm muscles.

I guess it would be easier if u hear my tune and I can point out what i mean, i may not be saying it correctly...section 1:55-2:02 is a Bb melodic Minor Arpreggio starting on the root ( 13th fret, A string) over A7#5 and the 2:50-2:57 section is the lick i used as the first example ( Super Locian) starting on the minor 3rd of Bb ( C# ) over A7b9. I just use my ears as the vehicle... however it translates in theoretical terms, I'll leave that for u to tell me since I'm not as savvy in that dept. ;)

I welcome the feedback too by the way.

excellent. nice amounts of space left, but then killer chops and runs at other times... i liked it.

In that case...

Awesome. Thanks Ed! I'll get right on this... Looks like I'd still use 1-3-4 fingering for the stuff I looked at at the begining...

The lick in the PDF is all 1-2-4 when I play it. BTW, hat's a Ritchie Kotzen lick.

Cool - Kotzen is my favorite legato player...

I know most would use 1-2-4 for the majority of this, but things like 10-12-14 would be 1-3-4 for me... That is just the way I'm forced to roll...

9-10-12 of course has to be 1-2-4... but I try to avoid that now...

That's what I was talking about earlier the Paul Gilbert approach.

thanks bro...Jeff Beck is probably the reason why I'm approaching it that way. Either that or Chopin's Nocturne's..

Here's one I do all the time. Play it on your B string.

12-10-8-10-12-12-12-10-10-10-12-15-15-15-12--10-8- 10-12-12-12-12-10-10-12-10-8

Let me know what you think.
