What is the thing about him not doing "Jacksons"? Some of the guitars you guys posted seem pretty similar to charvel/jacksons.

Fender Lawyers calling him trying to order a strathead or jackson

people wanting a jackson but wanting to pay GMW prices then throwing a sticker on the headstock.

Lots of these are older ones when Fender was not interested in chasing him until he started to take a bite out of their sales.

Yes , its my GMW version of a Neal Schon sig...

what the HECK size frets you got on that thing? those have to be 3/16" wide  ....

dude, you dont need 2 of these...I'll buy the purple one from you...like...now...

I have never had the chance to play a GMW and have heard nothing but fantastic things about them but....
I contacted Lee a year or two back and the guy was a complete dick, and one that will never get my money because of it. I had contacted him about some refinishing work (which, at that piont in time, was a prominent part of his website, before the Empire line was released) as well as a custom strat style and the guy was just a total asshole. There are too many great builders out there for me to waste my money on guys that are douchenozzles. He may make a fine guitar, but so does Scott Heatley and he is a super nice guy to boot!

I know a number of others have had much better experiences than I, and that is great for them. I, however, did not have a great experience, or even a sub par one.

I'm interested to hear how he was a "complete dick". I know he can seem rushed at times and direct/rough about what he will and will not do.... Some people take offense to that... He talks to tons of guitar players every day, many of whom are just wasting his time on stuff they are never going to order. Some people find him rude because of this, but I totally understand...

If there is more than that I have not experienced it and would be suprised...

not played one, but (aside from that fretboard incident) i've heard nothing but good things

Hi Steve,

Well, I will be completely honest and say that it has been too long for me to recall the details at this point (it had to be over two years ago as I don`t have it in my email any longer), but you touched on it to some degree. He came across as if I was waisting his time and was not worthy of his services, so I decided he wasn`t worthy of my money. I understand he talks to alot of people, many of which are just kicking tires, but that is part of the game. Unfortunately he is running a sales based buisness and if he doesn`t want to deal with that, perhaps he should look elsewhere. To me, there is nothing that will turn me off more than somebody who is rude and acts as if I am waisting there time when we are discussing spending my money with them. When I contacted him I had money in hand and I had a negative enough interaction with him to spend it elsewhere and know that I will never spend it with him. As a grad student I don`t make much $ at this point, so if I am talking about spending some on a custom piece you can be damn sure it will be with somebody who actually seems interested in me as a customer!

All that aside, I know many have had great interaction with Lee/GMW and thats great. I wish them no harm/no loss of buisness (I have no grudge or anything, just sharing my experience when it is asked for and in no way go from thread to thread bashing GMW), I wish that my interaction could have gone accordingly as I hear he makes some killer guitars! Fortunately though, he is not the only one that does.

Kage, post pics of the new axe as soon as it arrives!!! I'd have asked you to post pics of your GMWs but you already did that!

Ralph, I want to see the twins in action or bed pics would be fine too! ;)

I just found another GMW that I will buy on Monday hopefully.
I bought a solid Maple two years ago and I am a true GMW lover now! Great guitars, great tone, awesome feel!!

I remember you had posted pics of those GMWs on a bed but it was so long time ago I couldn't find teh thread at HCAF anymore! HOM Christmas get-together it was, I think? Dec ´05 or Jan ´06?

I'd be buying the GMW in the aftermarket, so I wouldn't be dealing with Lee.

It's a shame that people have had less-than-favorable experiences when dealing with GMW, since he makes such cool products and many of us GAS for killer custom guitars.

If I had the talent to create a product that strangers would contact me to purchase, i'd be flattered. I can understand how many years of tire-kicking phone calls would get old quickly. Being in biz for yourself means you get to call the shots!!

Compare Scott Splawn. He gets his share of tire kickers (me) and I only bought a guitar from him. I always wanted to keep the conversations short and to the point so he could get on to building amps, but he would keep the conversation going, go off on tangents, etc. He is a genuinely great guy.

Compare Ed Roman. I spoke with him on the phone. Short, gruff, dismissive. He was actually very cool in person and let me hang out in his place in CT for a couple of hours unsupervised. He's been cool each time I've been in his Vegas shop as well. He's actually a trip when you get him on a rant!

LOL...The orange looking one on the top left is my maple GMW, the SL-1 was mine and that Kramer neck was a neck I gave to H from a 1987 Imperial Pacer

Oh that bed has been some good times
