I snagged a cheap S420 offa ebay this week, and it's pretty cool. But it's got a couple fundamental issues that need curing.

After I gave it a quick setup... (when I took it out of the box, it had so much bow in the neck I thought it was a harp!) I discovered that it has a high fret. (11). I did my normal trick of trying to tap it down, but its seated well, and didnt move much.

I'm thinking I can just grab a crowning file from stew-mac and knock it down a tad...

WWJD?

Hi,

I'm new here.

You might consider the Thomas Ginex fret leveling and crowning method. I bought one off ebay, and it works real slick and easy for great frets.

You would end up with even and smooth crowned frets for about $20.00, and very little worry of ruining your guitar.

I'll never use a regular fret crowning tool again.

I am suprised they wouldn't have better pictures on the website. I think there is a video clip, but I can't play it at work :(

That's pretty interesting...

But still, I only need to take a hair off of one fret...

Thanks for the info though.

As much as I like the DIY approach to things, this is something that you may just want to leave to a luthier.

Use a small, fine grain file and be carefull.

The clip is terrible, but I will admit I am interested in the product! Anybody else got experience?
