Yeah, that did not last long, only 2 months ago I posted that I sold my last Engl after playing them for 7 years. I had my ESP Vintage Plus up for sale for some time and got a trade off. Met up with the guy this afternoon and went home with the Slowhand. For those unawhere, the Slowhand is a limited edition of the Blackmore, running 6L6s and has some tone tweaks. Some say these and the Fasthand motion (EL34s) are some of the best Engls out there and I must start to believe this.

Slowhand sounds WAY more organic than any other Engl I have played. I plugged in and it felt like coming home. The Engl-tone is something that I wil always dig. The Slowhand has the same bite and crunch as the Blackmore but sounds thicker and smoother with a less overwhelming low end.

That one has a lot less gain and a less aggressive voicing than the standard Blackmore right?

^ that's what i've heard, but best to wait for yoeri!

Awesome score, yoeri- i haven't tried the slowhand, but i've tried the (i assume) bog standard blackmore, and was very, very impressed. Great value too.

Wouldn't trade in my savage se, obviously, but if a situation ever arose where I needed a spare (with a similar tone, obviously I still have GAS for differently voiced amps, lol), blackmore would be close to the top of my list!

It is less aggressive but not sure if it has less gain, it seems more or less on par with my Savages gain-wise.

Well, had some more time to play with the amp. It's been awhile since I played a Blackmore so my memory is foggy at best.

First of all, the Slowhand sounds killer. I still need to check out the power tubes though but they seem good. First thing I noticed is the great clean channel, sounds very nice, lotsa spank and clarity. The hi gain mode of the clean was a bit of a surprise though. I thought it would give me a good crunch tone but there's not a lot of gain. I need to have the clean gain/volume control around 3 o'clock to get some grit and cruch with single coils. With humbuckers, it does have some crunch happening but not much. I remember the Blackmore having more, the Slowhand is known to have less gain than the Blackmore. The lead channel in both modes sounds really great, lotsa different kickass tones in there. I ran the gain around 12:00 and even in hi gain mode I could dial back the volume control to get a clean tone.

It still has that signature Engl mid-tone as well as the agressiveness of a Blackmore but it sounds smoother overall. You just know it will cut through any mix with ease. It seems to also have a bit less bottom then a standard Blackmore which for me is perfect :) I think the amps forte lies in classic rock to hardrock tones, the crunch channel loves pedals and gets a really nice Hendrix-vibe. It's possible to get even heavier tones no doubt about it.

Compared to my Savages, it has the crunchiness of the Savage 120 mixed with the sweetness of the Savage SE. It's like a mix of both in a simpler package. It does not have the amount of low end of the Sav 120, more like the Sav SE but it is still tighty tight.

I just bought a 2nd hand Z11 to switch it with midi. I have to incorporate the Z11 into my rack so I can use the Slowhand for rehearsing/gigging. All I need is to find the time.

^ cool, thanks for the review, yoeri. I thought the standard blackmore reminded me most of my savage se in the engl line up- but a wee bit more open sounding, and a bit less gain. and a simpler package, as you said. :D

Sounds like your slowhand has less gain than the ordinary one, i got a reasonable amount of crunch (from what i can remember, it was certainly capable of classic rock with humbuckers) on the high gain mode of the clean channel.

glad you like it!

the ESP has been getting some playing time here. She felt neglected.

BTW this avatar of you is way better than the tyler twins...
