Yesterday I was fiddling with my pedals and hooked my axe to a DynaComp (thanks Pat for the suggestion) and my Arion Chorus into my Mixer. Added some treble from the mixer's eq and some reverb from the Lexicon which is (permanently) hooked to the mixer loop.

Who needs a POD, Rockman or anything else for that typical 80s wide chorus/verb stuff when you have two pedals :D
Sounds amazing (for certain stuff).

I will use that more often. If you never did that - give it a try.

You need something to do some micro-pitch shifting and then you are totally there. The new coverband I'm playing with does a lot of eighties pop/rock and those chorused/pitched clean tones are EVERYWHERE

That would mean another pedal? No, I've collected already way too many with all the additional rack stuff. I just liked the idea of "quick" recording with just two pedals, you know . . .

How's the new/old Engl?

No way, SPX90 or so, they are perfect for that pitch thing :)

New/Old Engl probably needs a checkup, it sounds good but acts a bit strange sometimes, I think it needs at least new power tubes. Threw some RFTs in there (OF COURSE) and it sounds great with them. Def. not your typical Engl, I'm now curious how the one with EL34s sounds

Change its screen resistors to 1k/5W then - and throw that ugly choke resistor into the garbage and spend 20€ for a good ole 3H choke ;)

Sup Brother!! It's funny that you mentioned that because that is exactly what I did the other day!! Guitar>Dynacomp>Arion Chorus> Mackie Mixer with some cool EQ!! Instant 80's clean!! :D

The other thing I did to make it sound really lush was to add another chorus!(Boss ce-5) 2 chorus pedals set for a different rate = HUGE!!! :D

Thats funny ralph :D

I just have this Arion pedal, which other chorus would you recommend? The CE-1? The Digitech thing looks amazing featureswise (chorus factory), with some nice emulations going on inside . . . ever tried it?

Olaf!

I've never tried the Digitech. I'll have to look into that!!

I got a boss CE-5 for my Birthday. The arion sounds weird with distortion , so I looked into the ce-5. I wanted a chorus pedal that sounded good with a bit of dirt and I figured the CE-5 would do well in that area. The arion does a great job at that Tri-chorus type sound but it's not subtle.. The Ce-5 is more subtle to my ears and that's why I wanted both the arion and Boss. Now that I have the 2 pedals, I decided to hook them both up! Between the 2 I have the pedal chorus sound covered. I was looking into the Line6 pedal but it reminded me of the Arion! I also have a boss super chorus but I HATE that pedal.

Olaf!!

I just looked intio the Digitech and had I known about that before I asked for the Ce-5 for my Birthday, I would have asked for that instead!! hands down!! The demo kills!!!

Exactly my thinking Ralph.

And you are 100% on target! I wish I would have known about that pedal before I got the boss, but what can ya do!!!

Of course..especially since that's how we did it in the 80s.

Hi Ed, thanks for the confirmation. Any more cool pedal tipps for a newbie to this?

My fave way of a lead boost...
clean amp with an OD into a booster. The OD will squarewave the signal therefore you have more headroom for the booster to actually give you a volume instead of gain increase.

Also loop box with a delay running into a octave pedal. This way your initial note will be the normal note and then delay will be an octave down.

I will try it asap and report then !

Here´s a clean clip I recorded along time ago: Clean

It starts guitar->comp->amp, then I add reverb and small delay, 3rd part adds micro pitch shift to it and finally I add a chorus as well. Rev/Del/Pit/Cho are running in parallel in the loop with a mixer. GForce for rev/del, spx90 for pitch and rsp550 for chorusing.
