Odd question I know, ive never been a fan of the band.

However, the other guitarist in my band insists I listen to them before we start our next writing session. Apparently my material is too "busy," and he swears blind that Def Leppard are the perfect balance between simple riffs and great songs. Im yet to be convinced...

My fav Def Leppard CD's are Adrenalize and Pyromania. Pyromania has some killer riffs, but i prefer Adrenalize to it as a whole. The lead guitar was way better on Adrenalize IMO.

High N Dry kicks ASS!
I love the tone on that album

Everything sounds better: vocals, guitar, drums....everything.
After that, it all went downhill imo.

What would be lot more helpful is a clip of your material.

Like others said High 'n' Dry is a classic hard rock album. But if you sound like Meshuggah it's not that relevant.

Good point. Its just straight up classic/hard rock. I dont have any clips yet, things are at a very early stage. We are still jamming out material trying to find our "sound"...

My favorite album from them by FAR is Pyromania. My favorite song by them is Bringing On The Heartbreak, not sure if that's on Pyro or High N Dry. They had that AC/DC type crunch tone but once Hysteria hit it sounded like they ditched their Marshall's and plugged into Rockman's.

Hysteria is just way to polished sounding, no balls on that CD at all.

High n Dry for sure. After that, they kept losing the raw edge - too much Mutt Lange.

Saturday night,... I'm HIGH!
Saturday night,... HIGN AND DRY!

Thanks for the heads up guys, ill check out all the suggestions!

High n' Dry for sure!!!!! The first one was a little rough. High N Dry was perfect mix of rawness and polish. Pyromania started sounding very polished and then they got ridiculous after that.

High n Dry FTW!

yep, you need to learn these 2, they're nice and slow. :D

You might be having trouble if you're not working with vocals. If it's just guitars you might be trying to fill in the melodic gaps too much with busy rhythms etc. Some of the best rock songs ever are two, three chords tops but the vocal just makes it. Imagine trying to sing over what you play and you'll find it's much easier to come up with melodies when the guitar is simpler.

Perfect example of this is AC/DC. Bad Co. is another good example. Also Kiss.

A lot of times when you figure out a classic song you'll be surprised that the actual part doesn't have notes/chords in it that you were positive existed. It's because between the bass, drummer and vocals a lot can be suggested that actually isn't there.

Another vote for Wasted, although I'd like to add Let it Go to the mix.

Some of my favorite Def Leppard songs.

Another hit and run
Run Riot
Gift of Flesh
Ride into the Sun
Ring of Fire
Turn to Dust
Truth?

My favorite albums are Hysteria and Slang.
