Don't...find your own.
Sounds nice...is it switching amps after each lick? WTF Scott! WTF!Digital Jams":f66ad said:Funny thing chasing tone, EVH had some pos parts guitar and old plexi and guys today have some serious money into rigs to get the same tone.
How come nobody is guessing the amp on Ed's clip anyways
The Big Snit":8f99e said:Example...EVH had a very different amp tone on the first 4 VH albums, but it was him that shone through....no?
I like the way it ended on the high note...Digital Jams":8c42c said:
I like hearing Eddie play...when he was playing great.Gainfreak":94ef9 said::|::QBB:
No.
You could still tell it was him playing because of his technique but as soon as he started using the Soldano and 5150, his tone was way differant.
I have said this time and time again. People need to seperate tone from technique. (not aimed at you Bruthah!!)
all IMHO

My favorite tone he had was on Fair Warning. But...I'm not partial to that album just because of his tone. It's the way he plays/writes that seems to matter more...on all the early stuff.
You know when you dial in an amp for yourself and it sounds excellent, pass the guitar to someone else and WTF.Gainfreak":4a68f said::|::QBB:
I hear you! Im just saying that the amp/gear used affects the sound.
You can pass the guitar around on the same rig and it will sound different from person to person because of there technique, but the underlying amptone is still going to be there.
Listen to Warren Dimatinis Demo that came out in 84, and then listen to Lay it down. He doesn't even remotely sound the same because he had shit gear on the demo
As far as Brother Ed's Bassman vs Avenger. To me that falls into the make one amp sound like another catagory. The hard fact is that I can make my Engl sounds like a Boogie by using a Reeza pedal and I doubt anyone could tell between the 2. Has nothing to do with my hands.

I've heard that over and over (used to run a record studio)...a nice sounding amp/rig of course matters, it's essential...but sometimes the guy playing it needs to realize how to coax a tone out of the guitar in order to sound good in the end. They can buy all the great sounding amps they want, it isn't going to help as much until their 'style/hands' sound great...chording, picking, muting, vibrato...basically FEEL...that has to all be together for me to really dig a clip of someone's playing.
By that logic there is then absolutely no reason whatsoever for anyone to buy a high gain head is there?Gainfreak":5ec11 said::|::QBB:

Was it the gear change or did the players approach also change. I know that I sound completly different than I did 10 or 20 years ago.Gainfreak":1cb66 said::|::QBB:
I totally hear you and I agree but I'm also a tone snob. I don't like listening to VH as much after he switched from the Marshall. Im also not as fond of Sykes now that he is using the Marshall. I dug both players better when they used their signature sound. To me they kind of lost something when they made the gear switch. I'll also add Ronnie LeTekro to the mix. Same guy... Same techinique...... Different tone.... Playing suffers because of it IMHO.
Don't get me wrong, I totally understand what you are saying and fingers definitely play a part in tone.
But I'm going speaking with the understanding that a guy knows how to dial an amp in for his tone...even when he switches brands...I did hear the last Sykes live CD the engineer did a horrible job on his guitar tone...I refuse to believe his stage sound was actually that harsh.Gainfreak":12e73 said::|::QBB:
