Yes--regardless of what anyone says--playing is a competition...

well I'm 'anyone' and I say it isn't a competition...playing guitar is expression personal and unique. This puts MOST of the opinions in the subjective category. I agree theres some objective criteria such as technical ability and knowledge of music/harmony/theory etc...but SRV went a long way with a simple blues scale and some tired licks. Comparing guitar players is like comparing persons...you like some and dislike others.

Well, yeah, of course I agree with that, BUT there is SH&TTY personal expression and good. We all know what sounds good, and like sh7t...

I totally forgot to mention John Perry (Stratboy151). John you have sick chops, and that trademark machine gun speed strumming rules

Riffy and Bulb

I know Gary--but never heard anything by him. Can you point me to a clip? And the other fella I never heard of period...

I agree--did you know that Carl is left handed, but learned to play guitar RIGHTY! Quiet a feat in itself if ya ask me...

Me too (lefty playing righty). Huge advantage when first learning 'cowboy' chords.

Huge kick-in-the-balls when YJM appears 3 years later.

I'm guessing there are some monster players on this forum and others who don't post clips. All the guys mentioned are good, although I have my preference.

there is no best for me, but there are plenty of guys who i think are great players around here. unfortunantly not many of my picks made your list.

can't even come close remembering everybody, some of the ones i can think of are J.B., GEORGE, TU BE, GIBSON666, and a few others.

LANCE A NOT's clip with the 5150III was pretty damned good.

There are some really great players here. I don't know if he's ever posted any of his playing on here, but Bullseye is a great player. He writes some really interesting riffs and his playing is top notch.

Speaking of gay, why is my name mentioned multiple times here and why are you always thinking of me? :inlove:.

I can't seem to dig up any of Gary's riffs but I assure you he is the man! Great player!

You wouldn't like Bulb :P Here's some of his work: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=147108
