The tunes on this album still hold up today...Syke's playing on cuts like "Gangland" is just ripping.... :rock2:

Look how young he is on the album cover shot, guessing about 18 or 19?

Sup Steve!!

Yeah I remember the Tigers way back when. I still prefer Sykes from the Whitesnake days but the guy could always play his ass off. He is one of my favorite guitar players for sure!

Hey Ralphie - I actually prefer him on the first Lizzy album he did, and yeah, the Whitesnake stuff just freaking rules.

BTW - I dug Digi J's MKIV better than the JVM :D

There will be no crossing over. Nope.....really.....

Ha, I saw TL 2 days in a row last weekend and have spent at least an hour last evening to try to play that harmonic he uses all the time (D on the A-string ?). I still have to practice more.
What I noticed too is that the feel of his vocals are very much like Phil Lynnots were.

Giga.

He uses the squeal which fits the song the best. Often C# (A string) - since many of the songs are written in A or F#minor.
Or B on the G string.
And sometimes the A on the E string, which is super fat.
You have to bend them up of course . . .

Sykes rulez btw - thank god he still makes heavy music. Got the latest Gary Moore album for my birthday and while there are some nice sounds (not songs) on it: Gary's got very very old. IMO.

Not to mention VERY VERY ugly, well worse than before.

I'm seeing GM this Sunday, not sure what to expect.

A lame evening with some cool LP sounds me thinks . . .

Awesome player thats for sure. I wish he would stop touring as "Thin Lizzy" and put out another Blue Murder disc

Absolutely, i wish him and Carmen and Tony would get together and tour. Even if they didnt put a new record out, and they just toured playing the old favorite tunes i would be happy!!!

He's playing at a festival in Holland, I'll be there for some other acts mainly but I'm curious to see him once in my life. I'll be there to see Marc Ford, Paul Rodgers, Joe Bonamassa and John Mayall. John Fogerty is the topact, GM plays before him.

That CCR guy? LOL.

I'm sure "Wanking By Myself" and "Don't Believe A Word" are still part of his list. I've seen him how often? 10 times maybe . .. Have fun then, hopefully the weather will be better over the weekend, I'm doing the annual big open air here.

Iv seen Gary about 3times live now, and iv seen Joe Bonamassa twice. I enjoyed Joe way more than Gary, Joe is freakin crazy good live!!

That first Blue Murder cd kills, straight up rock.

So... I have d/loaded Blue Murder Live Japan ...
John Sykes - Bad Boys...Live
Great stuff!! (I paid for it all)

Is he using Boogies??
Great tone... EXACT opposite of my Bogners...
Clarity, H U G E tone, cutting, nice sizzle!!
It's the perfect frequency for an electric guitar!

The 'Screaming Blue Murder' Live in Japan is done with a Triaxis and a Strategy series power amp (John's tech back was Mark Schneider, same with Petrucci).
The 'Bad Boy' Live has the Jose Marshalls.

My favorite Sykes record still remains 'Thunder & Lightning' up to this day.

I never saw this one, freaking awesome tone and playing!
